Okay, I *thought* I would be more cheered up by now, but something dreadful happened last night so I’m kind of down in the dumps again. *pitiful face* Trying to look on the bright side of things, so here I am, whining. My lovely-yet-hateful N73 died on me last night. After a mere 2 years of so of usage, it dieson me. T___T The murderer? Quite likely, me, but hear me out!
Remember how I always said that the Symbian firmware shipped out with the N73 was faulty? It wasn’t me who said it originally, it’s all over handphone forums out there. Basically, even after you delete a file from memory, it still resides there, continuously accumulating, continuously growing larger until you get “Out of Memory” errors, but when you look at your memory details, it’ll be something like :
Messages : 1MB
Calendar : 300kb
Images : 500kb
Total memory in use : 44MB. (WTF… my handphone fails at math)
Anyway, they *claimed* the solution was to format the phone and install a new version of the firmware, also provided by Nokia. I did that once… and then all was fine for a year or so. But just 1-2 weeks ago, the problem recurred. Funny… isn’t the last format a one-time-solves-for-all-time thing? I reformatted the phone again, and then it was okay…. until last night. ARGHHH!!
Just before I went to sleep, the “Out of memory” message started beeping, God that was annoying. I decided to restart my PC and reformat my phone, less I spend the whole of Friday unable to receive SMS-es.
Conclusion is… after the reformat of the phone, I got a “fail to startup” message from the program. The phone was dead to the world. Couldn’t even be switched on. Sigh. And it’s definitely not because the battery died… it’s fully charged!! Haih, I’m just so distraught now that I don’t want to linger on the subject anymore. This was really the worse choice of a phone to select, and I’m definitely turned off from Nokia and all their pariah software updaters. Don’t know how much it’s going to cost me to fix it, or how long it’s going to take. I dug my old Nokia out (thank God I still keep it!) and even though the “0″ and “9″ button can’t be used and it’s pretty much luck if you can hear the person at the other end… at least it can still be used to SMS people just fine. :\
Hoo’s lending me his old phone to tide me over though… my thumbs are already starting to hurt from using this one. And it’s just so weird that I can’t use my camera phone anymore. And I don’t have a funky alarm clock in the morning. :\
Oh, and I lost one side of my slippers yesterday. :\ Not just any slipper, my Ipanema slippers that I bought earlier this May. (Can still remember clearly because it was part of my “I have been deprived of shopping malls while I’m in Cambodia, so Imma splurge now!” phase). And I don’t even know how I lost it… probably it made an escape from my car as I got out / in yesterday. Haih… what is the value of half a pair of slippers? Zero! They were darn comfy and nice too… *emo*
Seem to have misplaced my IC as well… wtf. Guess what? I whined about all this to my boss!! She says that I think too much! :\ Oh yeah, there’s one more part… the transit between my flight from KL – HK and HK to SF is only 50 minutes long! Do you think it’s possible for the plane to land and park safely on the runway, for us to come down from the plane and run for the next boarding gate… within 50 minutes? I told the travel agent already that I am not comfortable with the timeframe but she said that since they are both Cathay flights, they will wait for the passengers. Is that true? T___T I don’t know… I’m such a jakun. I rather wait 5 hours and be sure I can get on the connecting flight than to think I only have 50 minutes, then have to get a reissued ticket for God-knows-when-the-next-flight-is. Then I’ll have to contact Simon and tell him that the plane is delayed or whatever… so mafan! Please… anyone who has travelled extensively and has been in the same scenario… tell me that it is sooooo possible to land and board the next plane in the airport within 50 minutes!!
Ok… let me count some GOOD stuff that happened today so I don’t get too emotional and start weeping silently in the office :
1. Hoo is so kind to lend me his handphone… !! [Ok, he actually went home to get it for me as I was typing / whining this into Notepad... and it's definitely better than MY backup phone. It's a Nokia 6620... aka "the soap handphone". I didn't come up with that... the Prince in my team (aka Putera) told me that.]
2. The Delias fiasco is actually a blessing in disguise because it will help me to save money!
3. My dad agreed to fetch me to the airport tomorrow!
4. I am currently reading Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman and it’s really funny and engaging! I hope to finish it before I go, but that’s unlikely… but I don’t want to bring it as “airplane reading” because it’s soooooo thick. For Laos, my last “airplane read” was A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, and this was really really really excellent and deserving of all the praise heaped upon it. I think this man is an absolute natural at storytelling. It was so good that I read it 3 times in all in Laos, and I never got tired of the story.
Hmmm.. talking about a good book makes me feel good too! :3 Anyway — what book should I bring onto the plane? I’m thinking… The Wind Up Bird Chronicle!
[Okay, I couldn't find my book - time to clean room when I get back - so I'm bringing Homer's Odyssey instead, hahaha!]
Elaboration on the weekend that passed! There was just too much stuff that I tried to squeeze into my last weekend in Malaysia before going to US. Thought of buying more things for the boyfriend, but I think the most important thing is that I reach him in one piece.
On Saturday, it was a bit of a mad rush, buying last minute things here, changing money into USD (I weep at the exchange rates! 3.53! :c), going to the gym… and then met up at Pauline’s house to go for David’s wedding.
When I arrived there, saw that AhSiang was back from Laos for holidays and was also carpooling with us. Hehehe… as I told my director (who I bumped into that night):
Mr T : “So… did you drive here, or did you FLY here.” (He will always bring up the speed I go as a topic ever since that one measley incident where I trailed his car!)
Me : “Oh… Michael drove. I’ve learned how to use other people for transportation already!”
Haha! Cindy started clapping like mad… I think Mr T makes her drive him around. Hahaha. =p
The wedding was really fun… David gave us a great table, sat with friends who we all knew. One thing I found AMAZING about the whole affair was that it was David’s father who was the “wedding planner”! David didn’t have to do anything at all! (Except to be present in a tuxedo). ^^ He was so free that he didn’t even need to take leave like my other male colleagues when they were getting married — still came back to work diligently. =p
More pictures:

The dashing groom and the blushing bride. :]

On the stage… the dude laughing behind is David’s brother.
The bunch of ??? Bank Staff :

ChiongAn & Helen. Helen is soooo pretty. *shy*

Me and Justin… I’ll explain the money later.

Patrick and Hoo aka nice guy who lent me his handphone for indefinite period of time!

The money is actually Lao Kip, and AhSiang exchanged RM40 all into 10000 kip notes… that’s how thick the stack is! One 10000 note is about 40sen. Reason? To pass out as souvenirs. Anyway, we had a lot of fun playing with it… until the waitress got “scared” of us and asked us why we were playing with money! :3

That’s me, Mr See and Michael.

Pauline, SiewFan and myself.

Another angle for the picture that I posted earlier.

Nice photo of the table behind us… cos they shone this freaking super powered lights at each table for photographs. And by golly, we had green spots dancing in front of our eyes for at least the 30 seconds after!

Photo with David and Alice… hahaha, nice lighting again!
In case you’re wondering, neither David nor his bride Alice are mixed Chinese… but from the food and the guests, you would think so…. hahaha. Oh, there was also a live band that sang some really random songs. When they sang Billy Ray Cyrus’s “Achy Breaky Heart”, I asked Cindy if she felt like line dancing. =p
Drank a bit too much red wine that night too… not like it was really good or anything. Hmm… honestly, I can’t tell! The next day, was a miracle that both Dull and I managed to wake up early-ish to start on our “road trip” *scoff* to Putrajaya for Fazlynn’s brother’s wedding. Was quite shy to go, cos erm… I don’t know anyone there? And I have NEVER met her older brothers before. But since she’s such a good friend and all… of course we have to “give face” and go. :3 Wore our Sunday best and all that jazz.
Putrajaya is actually a really beautiful place. The place is hot as a desert and empty to boot… but I think all the government buildings locate here are really picturesque. Seriously, I feel so ashamed of myself… I always take pictures of “interesting” buildings when I’m overseas, but I don’t do the same when I’m in Malaysia. Maybe I should drive to Putrajaya and just walk around to snap photos! Actually, I’m more psyched about the walking around bit than the snapping photos bit, haha!
Some photos!

I have no idea what buildings these are …
But I think they look nice…!
Oh, and Dull and I got lost coming here! But everyone else who we asked had no problem getting here. *shy*

Dull in her outfit that made me feel underdressed. >=\

Dull said this was a nice pic, so here I am posting it up.
We got lost trying to find the hall… hahaha. Ended up walking around all these office building areas.

Finally reached the hall! Empty…

The kompang session. The little boy in front seems to be “supervising” them… hahaha.
(Actually, he wants to have a kompang of his own la… I didn’t get to snap a photo of him hitting his imaginary kompang.)

Fairuz and Suri.
My highlight of the day was when Fairuz actually knew who I am before I introduced myself. T____T
So happy when older brothers make an effort to know their sister’s friends. T_____T So touching…

Dull and Fuzz. =)

Leechie and Fuzzy!

After the event was over…. was walking back to the car. And then Dull said she wish that there was someone to snap a photo of us walking. Since there wasn’t anyone around who could do us that favor, had to camwhore. I think I look pretty bad here, but Dull looks fab!

Me, taken with my handphone.
MY POOR HANDPHONE!!!! *cries*
I met Alex there too….. hahhaa… sorry, couldn’t recognise him at first. Now I realise how bad I am at hiding when I don’t recognise someone. T___T Fuzz was like, “How come you said ‘Ya ya… I know him’ but I could see from your face that you don’t know!” Hahahaha!! Okay, I feel really bad! Actually, would like to talk to him some more, but he was with a date… I think. Anyway, it’s a really small world!
That evening, met up with Fadhlin for Gamarjobat, as I wrote about earlier. “>The last time I went for the show, I went alone, which I felt was a pity since it was so good. The current show is not bad…. “The Western”. Still good mime techniques, still extremely funny. Just that rock n roll penguin gag…. *can’t get over it* But Hiropon and Ketch are soooo cute, everything is forgivable. :3 Another thing I regret is getting the cheap seats at the side. Don’t ever make the same mistake as me!! It’s a MIME show, so it’s best if you sit in the center. From the side, the gags don’t look as nice, and you’re more likely to see how the trick is performed than be impressed by the overall effect.
When I got home, my family “officially” celebrated my birthday with me… hahaha. Finally got to taste marble cheese cake from CeliCakes. It is really like eating a block of cheese… hahaha!

My cake!! Come to think of it I only had one slice…

Me!!! See how big the cake is compared to my FACE. -__-”

Happy camper.
And then I end that happy weekend by falling sick. WTF.
Sorry for the long entry… hahha. People who are bored at work must love my blog soooo much. O_O” This is just in case I don’t update for the next 2 weeks or so! I think I’ll have more time to blog when I’m over there, but I’m never inspired enough to do so if I don’t have Photoshop with me.
Must always resize the pictures nicely mar.
Anyway, just take care for the next 2 weeks… I wish all of you a much happier week than the one I had so far… and …. HAPPY DEEPAVALI in advance.
