Quest To Find Marmite! September 18, 2006

Pauline helped me on my Quest To Find Marmite (QTFM). I didn’t know that Marmite was quite so difficult to find, and to be honest, I’ve not even tried Marmite before! I’m just buying it to enter a competition, and who knows maybe I’ll end up being a Marmite fan. ;p I know Tieng lurvvveess Marmite but said that it’s not the same ever since they didn’t contain beef anymore. =) Anyway, my point was that Marmite is damn difficult to find, ok! Luckily Cold Storage did have it, but they didn’t display it on the aisle (which Pauline found) – only the empty bottles and you had to ask the customer service counter for the actual product. I was looking under the “sauce” section (“Marmite for flavouring, no?” I debated) , while she insisted that it would be under “spreads” (“You spread it on bread, like jam, correct?” she retaliated). Since Pauline won, the score is 1-0 in her favour on being an aunty. Mwahahah. ;p Oh yeah, in the end I asked the Cold Storage people why they had to lock their Marmite up in the storage instead of displaying on the shelves, and they said that it was because it was expensive and people had been stealing their Marmite. WTF? Anyway, my 470g of Marmite cost me RM26. Boo hoo hoo.
I also met my ex-prefect junior, Jason while I was on QTFM. He is currently a management executive (“Trainee…!” he adds in quickly before I melt into a puddle of shame), and I was so happy that he recognise me. What to do, I was oh-so-very low profile back in high school. I snap at my juniors when they mistake me for so-and-so when we meet up later at prefects reunions and what not. I mean, don’t know then don’t anyhow guess la ok. X_x Ok Jason, you one up in my books. I will so promote you to anyone I meet… Another of my juniors who one up in my books recently is “he who kena branch in his face” Dennis … who told me recently that I look like Kelly Chen. Is it? Is it? *starts to preen and flick fringe casually to the side, bats eyelashes, etc* Kelly Chen … she’s considered pretty right? *preens even more* Actually, my mom told me that also la… she said we both have the bitchy look… -____-||| (Ok, that’s not what she said, but that’s what she meant, believe me).
Erm, I also finally, finally read finish Book #10 of Wheel of Time : Crossroads of Twilight! I think it took me 1 year, so yeay – celebrate my average of 2 pages a day for one year! I feel real cheated reading #10 because … there are no revelations… at all! Whether I read this book or not, IT WOULDN’T HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE! Has Perrin found Faile yet? Nope. Has Egwene waged war on the White Tower? Nope. Has Elaida managed to get a little ahead in her attempt to weed out the Black Ajah? Nope. Has Elaine done anything but fantasise about Rand while on the Rose Throne? Nope. Has Rand reaped the fruits of his labour cleaning out the male source? Nope. Has Faile managed to get her hands on the Truth Rod? Nope. NoPe!! NOPE!!! Seriously, it’s a whole lot of round-a-bout storytelling in this book and it’s extremely frustrating. Heard from CheeK that Knife of Dreams is much more of a cliffhanger, so I guess I’ll go ahead and get it. I mean hey, I’ve already read 10 books, what is another 1 or 2 more in the WoT series?
But before that — I’ve already started on Teacher Man by Frank McCourt.
I echo whoever who said, “I wish that I could’ve been a student in one of his classes.” He’s brilliant — and still so humble and filled with self-doubt.
Surprise, Surprise! September 7, 2006

Been real busy at work the past few days, wanted to take leave, but decided that asking my boss for 2 weeks off (in essence, working only less than 10 days in a month) later was already pushing it. Have you ever been so stressed that you feel your world weaving around you? Now I understand why there *have* been cases of employees fainting in the company. Hahhaa, it’s so mean cos I’m now laughing at the thought (even though I just said I understand how it feels). Now I’m afraid that one day I’ll be the one who faints in the server room. =p
So, last Sunday we finally celebrated Ru’s birthday at TGIF, Seksyen 14. Initially, we had planned for it to be a surprise party last week, and Dash was the “organiser”. Basically, she was in charge of getting Ru to go out with her last week, but Ru refused to go out last week!! So in the end we had no choice but to tell her about it so she’ll get out of the house. Besides, I kinda spoiled it by chirpily telling her, “See you tomorrow!” when I left the office on Friday. *facepalms* Luckily she just thought I was weird and being hardworking and coming back to work. Hohoho. Regardless, she was still surprised by us, because we got the TGIF staff to “celebrate” for her. You know, their version of ragging people on their birthday? Cos you know. Ru just didn’t see it coming because she thought that since we were celebrating a week late, they wouldn’t want to give us the time of day. =p Luckily PL secretly arranged with them beforehand. =)

Pretty lamp hangings at TGIF. I forgot to bring my camera! I know… my colleagues were all surprised too!
All pictures courtesy of Justin

Justin, JW & Chloe (JW’s girlfriend). She looks like she is disdainful of his behavior, mwahhhaa! =)

Yes, the perils of sitting just opposite the photographer…

Me and my spicy three chilli calamari (appetizers). Yup, took the RM39.90 set again…

Rupa helping TGIF advertise their chicken fingers…
That reminds me… Justin was asking why it’s called chicken fingers and not chicken toes. *facepalms*

My chicken & shrimp diablo. It’s more watery than the one I had in TGIF Subang! Blek! Not nice!

This is what I wished I had ordered… the cajun shrimp pasta. So creamy… so yummy…

Chloe modelling the chicken quesadillas (also something I wish I had ordered! Darn!)

Pauline showing off her “Mushroom Chicken Mushroom”… or was it “Chicken Mushroom Chicken”? Hmmm…

Yup yup, despite complaining so much about it, I was just a little short of licking the plate clean. =p

TGIF food advertising stopped for a while so we can take picture of the loving couple JW & Chloe

Ru was mocking a certain someone… tee hee!
Michael are you still hungry??? But it looks like Ru’s not willing to share! =p

Now here I am tucking in to the 3rd course – Friday’s Sundae. Ooh wee!

This was what Justin really wanted all along… the double chocolate brownie (something like that). He wanted to start with desserts first!

Ru being surprised with a free birthday cake! She was so shy, lol.

Everyone preparing to torture Ru… check out PL’s delight at her junior’s impending public humiliation. HAHAHA!

Ru standing on the chair — forced to sing, then give a speech, then blow the candle off the cake without bending down at all!

Eating chocolate cake is good for getting over traumas!

Whatdaheck… every other picture is of me stuffing my face.

Ru & Michael having some serious discussions on how to blow candle off cake without bending down.

Ru is obsessed with her “mic” (pepper grinder)

Me laughing. =D Hey, at least it shows that it was a damn funny & entertaining & enjoyable night!

Part one of the girls : Chloe, Pauline, Ru & myself

Part two of the girls : Not like got a lot of difference, just wanna waste your bandwidth, cannot ah?

The boys. Btw, Justin fancies that he looks like Amber Chia. Don’t ask.

Ranesh, Fazlynn, YK, myself, Siew Lee & Dalshna waiting eagerly for my public humiliation.
Don’t ask me why I’m dressed even more fuddy-duddy than a 40 year old. I said DON’T.

Expression of disgust when I find out what I’m supposed to do.
Just look at the happy, evil faces around me!

Finale — got my face smashed into cake thanks to the TGIF staff. Ish, ish, ish!

Dull looks on as I munch on the fruits of my labour.

Fuzzy, Siew Lee, myself, Dull, Pn Vignes & YK. She (Pn Vignes) said she was a Blues / R&B singer.
She was chanelling Ray Charles, you know what I mean?

YK, Siew Lee, myself, Dull & Faz… some kinda pose la…
Happy birthday to Ru again! ^_^ Next time sing Don’t cha…..

Countdown to the company annual dinner preparation— T-15 hours. For the past 48 hours, we have been given time-off work to work on our performance-related shizzle. Tomorrow, if you happen to be in the KL Convention Center area, you’ll probably be able to see a lot of our staff in the theme dress competition. Seriously worth an eye-over. I probably won’t be there as I’ll be getting made up for the staff performance. =)
Anyway, not to sound like an ingrate or anything, but most people think it’s fun and laughs to take part in the staff performance solely because you get time off work, but it’s soooooo annoying and gives me high blood pressure. Don’t want to say anything more, but I’m so not taking part next year.
Just to concentrate more on the “benefits” instead of whining about the bad bits — I got to settle some stuff in Damansara Uptown this morning! I collected my Redken “hamper” from Uptown 2… took me 30 minutes to find the place. -___-” Everyone there parks like absolute morons. It’s like the ULTIMATE double-parking hellhole. Anyway, I am always surprised at how expensive a few items are when I redeem my prizes. Check out, these 3 items supposedly amount to RM158…
Fulfilled my book-collecting fetish at both Kinokuniya and Borders. I think I’m pretty sated for the moment. Will avoid bookstores from now onwards:
I’ve read almost half of The Tipping Point and I think it’s extremely good. I love books of this genre. Those who liked Freakonomics will enjoy Malcolm Gladwell’s findings too.

CheeK posing nicely, and Murtz shying away. Wondering whose finger that belongs to…. wonder no more…

Portrait of an INTERROGATING lady.

L-R : Me, Steph, Cheek & Murtz. Thanks for making me look fat Steph…. I won’t take picture with you anymore… =(

This is for the benefit of CheeK. As promised – Steph in Female mag. =)
