Making Myself Pretty… May 28, 2011

Sorry for not updating so much! In fact, I have been very busy with my blog, but not in the updating department. :P I have been cleaning up my blog, realising that I have messed up categories and tags, and in fact left a lot of my stuff uncategorised and un-tagged. I have nearly 500 entries to clean up, so I’ve been going through that whole mountain and slowly bringing everything up-to-date. Very proud of myself… had no idea that without tags and categories, your entries will be very lowly prioritised in Internet searches. No wonder I get a lot of linkbacks for more recent entries, but all my old entries are gone with the wind! It’s like they don’t exist on the Internet…

So as I’m updating my tags, I’m amused by my tag cloud, as it contains mostly stuff from my 2001 – 2004 blogging years… this is what my tag cloud looks like at the time of writing :

I’m still updating, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how my tag cloud will look like at the end! Meanwhile, I also saw a spike in the number of hits coming to my website. Hahahaha…  x100

This will just be a short blog, cos I really didn’t do much this Satuday. Was up early to meet Tron’s friend, who is actually his best friend’s wife. She is a sweet and pretty lady with a younger brother who is super talkative and friendly. When we were having bak kut teh (at this super secret place, dowan to share with u!!), halfway thru talking I felt like her brother is talking just like an adult! And he’s 13! We are more than twice his age! Anyway, it was a wonderful morning together…

Oh yeah, I did a make-up post while waiting for Tron to come pick me up! I had so much time on my hands cos he was slow this morning, hehe! =) If you’re interested to see how I do my make-up, click here! You can see how I transform :

After that, I got my hair did… spent a bundle at Kimarie to finally do hair rebonding after 1.5 – 2 years of not doing it! Actually, I’m really impressed with my hairstylist at Kimarie. There was this girl who shampoo-ed my hair and asked me if I wanted to do hair treatment as well. They always tell me that my hair is dry, and that it’s worse after rebonding. All the other times that I cut my hair at Kimarie, they ALWAYS ASK ME TO DO HAIR TREATMENT. I figured, since I was already spending so much, then FINE LAH, I will do hair treatment. Then when I was waiting in the room to get the treatment, my hair stylist suddenly told me, “Actually, your hair is super healthy, why do you need to do hair treatment?” I was shocked! I didn’t know my hair was considered as SUPER HEALTHY, but maybe it’s because I’ve been doing hair masks?

Anyway, I was a bit skeptical at first, who knows, he might say don’t do hair treatment, but do something EVEN PRICIER? In the end, he honestly told me that the hair treatment might make your hair feel super good for at most 3 washes. After which it will go back to normal. He recommended me a Kerastese hair product (which I will review on my other blog…)  which was half the price of the treatment (the treatment costs RM120! Egads! I so stupid, I didn’t even ask the price from the other lady and agreed to do this mofo expensive treatment?!!! The reason is because last time they quoted me RM80!). He said with the serum, it will keep the ends smooth and the dang bottle can last you 6 months to a year… which is definitely longer than 3 washes! Ok la, I *heart* my hairdresser now… :) He said definitely my hair is not damaged nor need additional treatment because I never blowdry it, I don’t curl it, I don’t dye it, etc. Actually, I dye it, but he said it was so long ago that it has healed itself. Hahahhaa.

Went for Patisfrance pastries for tea-time as Tron was busy with his own stuff. The cashier a bit rude today… I prefer the Patisfrance lady boss… she is really nice and seems like she makes all the pastry herself (SEEMS LIKE) cos she can talk really lovingly about each creation. Anyway, had the Lavazza coffee, two scoops of gelato (fresh yogurt & mango sorbet… both very yummy) and some buns! Such a lovely Saturday I had. Plus good news from the office that implementation given green light for Monday! Yahooo!

During my 3 hour long hair rebonding session, I managed to read finish Amy Chua’s Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, and I have to say, I really do admire her! This is the online article about the book that I first read that made me want to buy the book. Firstly, a lot of people have already hated on her just because of the online article, but you really have to read the book to understand what was going through her mind when she trained her two daughters with the discipline of a drill sergeant. It is not just shouting at your daughter and making her do as you will. A Tiger Mother has to put in as much dedication as her child if she wants her child to become a prodigy. Not any Tom, Dick or Harry can become a Tiger Mother. You think striking fear into your child’s heart would make her play better? Amy was willing to spend ANY FREE TIME THAT SHE HAD to oversee her child’s development. In order to know how her child was progressing, she would learn about music as well. She was willing to drive her children for hours to go for classes with world-reknown violinists or pianists in order for them to have the very, very best.

It’s not about being unreasonable and demanding. Yes, she was quite hurtful to her children at some points, but she was never malicious. To Amy Chua – I salute you! I believe that children do need to be pushed in order to succeed. Of course, as in the case of her 2nd daughter, it would be good if they had a choice in what they succeeded in. ;) I really did empathise with Louisa as I felt that I was more like her… always compared (unfavorably) to my older sister. I too often wondered – is this how it always is? That the younger sibling cannot perform on par with the older sibling? As time went on, I just realised that it was all down to my own self-esteem issues. The problem was with me, and not my mother. And I believe that Amy Chua really did believe in her children and she taught them to always ask, “If that person can do it, why not I?” Wonderful to have someone as formidable as her as your mother, backing you up.

Had a wonderful night after that with Tron… dinner at Din Tai Fung and he regretted asking me if I wanted anything from Caring pharmacy. :P He was buying some stuff and generously offered. My eyes were round because I had just bought some stuff in Guardian (for contests) and was feeling a bit too over-the-top if I grabbed indiscriminately in Caring as well. I tried my luck by asking him to get me the RM68 Palmer’s Eventone Fade Cream and Anti-Darkening Sunscreen from their Skin Success range. Tron dismissed it by saying that I was too much and that I don’t need it. Hmph. I’ll get it myself. But he did buy me some Fruit of the Earth Cocoa Butter lotion though, can’t wait to try that. =)

Anyways, can’t wait to read my new magazines just a-lying on my bed. Good night! Leaving you with two random pictures from the work week :

I always wondered why cops NEVER catch drivers in Malaysia who go over the white line at the traffic light. From this picture, you will know the answer — cos they can’t stop BEFORE the white line themselves! They probably don’t even know that they are supposed to…

My RM4.90 BRIGHT FLUORESCENT GREEN shorts from some random cheap clothes sale at South City Plaza. Actually, it’s a pretty good fit …

Will talk about work later, right now I just want to show you my bangs…. :P

What do you think? So far I like it…! But it just needs to grow 1 cm more and then it’ll start annoying the crap outta me. :) Anyway, it’s very easy to muck around with it and make it look less severe.

In case I don’t blog after this, wishing you a happy chinese new year and happy valentine’s day in advance. What would you really wish you could do for valentine’s day with your loved one? I’ve always spent my valentine’s day alone, or with friends (back in college days). I think spending time alone is good… cos no one loves me more than I love myself. Hee hee!

Pageantry… Not For Me, As If That Needed To Be Said In Black & White. May 1, 2009

Through the turmoil of hawking credit cards, which by the way – huge thanks to all of you who e-mailed me about the company’s products… really touched this icy little heart of mine — if you’re still interested despite my decrepit sales mumbo jumbo, I am still here for further questions. Meanwhile I found an easy way out in FORCING my closed ones to sign up for credit cards – through the turmoil of having a server administrator freaking DELETE the entire UAT (User Acceptance Testing) region, through the turmoil of everyday work while succumbing to the temptation of Jewel Quest after I already lost the faithful source of entertainment via my USB drive & the Internet… work just gets better and better…

My boss asked me if she could sign me up to join the company beauty pageant. OH-MY-GOD.

Of course I said no! And I’m going to be ultra bitchy if I’m going to be forced to join. They are obviously going to make a mockery out of me and I definitely know I don’t have an ice cube’s chance in Hell to win, so why bother! Plus, you don’t know how the company’s beauty pageant is like… it’s really like… ugh, I can’t write out what I really think so let me paint a scenario for you. The top 10 finalists have to gyrate sensually to some music while wearing bikinis that look like they are made out of gold foil. Very little gold foil. I’ve already cringed myself to near death when pictures of me in that charming fishnet-stockings-plus-hooker-ensemble circulated around the office, so I cannot imagine myself in further states of undress.

Okay, why my boss even suggested this to me is because this dude in the IT division, who lovesssss organising / choreographing / taking part in any company performance decides that before we send in our representatives to the contest, we have to hold our own “Miss IT Division” beauty pageant in order to determine the “best of the best” before sending the candidates in. The suggestion was to get 3 girls from the technical side, 3 girls from the application development side, and 3 girls from the “dan lain-lain” category (administration, compliance, etc). HAHAHA! Shouldn’t the requirement be just to select the girls who are actually interested / can’t say no? It’s like, at first your task was just to catch 2 girls and now you’re making your job harder by trying to catch 9 girls instead! HAHAHA!

Oh, and the requirements are pretty simple : you have to be over 155cm tall, weigh less than 60kg (although I think that in most people in MALAYSIA’S books, if you are 155cm and weigh 59kg, you are a cow, unless your boobs weigh 10kg. EACH.), younger than 30 years old and not be married. My boss said that it’s hard to catch a girl to enter the contest because most of the girls who meet the requirements are already married. WTF. By the way, Malays are forbidden to enter the contest due to the very-small-gold-foil-bikini session for the pageant and recently, the company (the IT division, that is) has started hiring a lot more Malays and Indians in an attempt to be more muhibbah and not be so chinese-centric anymore. Plus, the good Malay staff that we got usually left within a few months or so because they did not have enough friends. Now they have a large gang of them and their hobby is to walk in the sun to the UNITEN canteen with their jackets on for lunch. HAHAHA. The point of this story is that with fewer Chinese girls coming in, mostly Malay girls hired, and already few Indian female staff, the pool of people they can catch to enter (ie: people who are new to the company and don’t know how LOLtastic the beauty pageant is) is very small.

Okay, back to the main story. We all know who is going to be selected in the end — this girl SWan and Christine… so why put the other 7 girls through the humiliation of taking part in the mock “Miss IT Division” lah! Enough said about this topic, despite my ultra-confidence, I know my limits. I think I’m good looking, but I won’t say I’m bloody gorgeous. If think I look good naked, doesn’t mean I would want to show off my body in a string bikini, kapische? Hahahaha!!! Besides, what would I do for the talent time portion? Show how I can lift 45kg (average chinese girl’s weight – not mine) with my quadriceps? According to Raymond, my talent is to scream Scooter songs, which he says and I quote, “You are filling your brain with rubbish.” This was after I screeched at him, “ENCORE HARDCORE, ROCK YOU DOWN, TO THE FLOOR, POSSE SAW YA, ON THE BORDER, JUNGLE JUMPER, UNDER ORDER, EVERY MINUTE EVERY HOUR, GOT THE POWER, TAKE A SHOWER!” Man, that Scooter is just a genius with lyrics.

The prize money isn’t that lucrative anyway. It’s just RM5000. If you say that that’s a lot, how about I pay you a POTENTIAL RM5000 to join a beauty pageant organised by me?? It has to be males not older than 45. Must be 65kg and above and taller than 165cm. The pageant will start with all males dressed in “grid boy” costumes – super tight red color singlets with super short (and tight – needless to say) shorts, escorting me into the auditorium while carrying “bunga mangga”. After I have entered the hall, they will then congregate to do the first dance of the evening – to something by Vengaboys / Toy Box / Aqua. Second part of the beauty pageant, they will be dressed in “evening wear”, but nothing as elegant as a tuxedo. Must be those kinda designs which involve suits made of see-through materials, lace, sequins, velvet, silk, etc. They will then have a Q&A session. The best part of the evening will have to be the gold-foil bikini bottom dance to a Kylie Minogue song to show off their assets. Wah, I think if I sold tickets for the pageant at RM50 per ticket, I will be able to recover my RM5000… maybe even get a tidy profit!!

Anyway, I saja berdrama now on my blog… I know my boss won’t force me to do drastic things like gain weight til I’m over 60kg or to get married within the next 10 days (all I need is to find a Hainanese, hahaha. Hainan Power!). Wait til July / August ok, I will post up pics from the annual dinner on my blog, kekeke.

By the way, I finished my trial pass with Celebrity Fitness… no offense to anyone but I was pretty disappointed with the place. Maybe I’m old… hahaa, it was totally not for me. Some of the members that I met there were super friendly so I felt quite touched. There was one class I attended where the instructor mentioned that the class was going to be removed from the schedule soon, but I ended up enjoying that class! Felt sad that I could not “support” it since I’m not a Celeb Fitness member. :) I’m thinking about starting the trial with California Fitness soon… will give myself a short break before I start because I don’t want to kill myself so soon. Hahaha. I really felt like I wasted the trial membership with Celeb because I wasn’t sooooo into the place, but I kept forcing myself to go. It really made me feel like I was being forced to workout, which of course, is not good at all. It breaks the whole exercising mojo. :P Anyway, I received gym-enlightenment in the form of finding out that I enjoy those more ‘aggressive’ classes more than other stuff. So maybe that’s why I didn’t like Celeb so much… because their dance classes are more groovy and sexy and although you do sweat (no denying that!), I don’t think it’s as much of a workout as Body Jam. And there’s no Body Attack!! I went one entire week doing only one Body Attack class when I was on the trial pass and I felt so tortured, hahaa. Since California Fitness doesn’t have Attack as well, I feel a bit apprehensive about it… but what the heck, gym infiltration is fun! :P

Oh, and I’m also pretty upset about this swine flu thing that is going around…. mainly because it has affected me! Not the disease, but because of this thing, I might not be able to travel to a certain country because it is located near those countries affected. Sigh… and I spent so much time researching for the trip, you have no idea! T___T If I can’t go this year, I can’t go at any time again, so it’s like, a really missed opportunity, y’know? I am keeping my fingers crossed that all will be okay… at least I didn’t book all my tickets and stuff already. But still…. *HUGEEEEE SIGHHHH* And it’s not just this country that I will be missing out on! I planned to do a stopover in another country as well… so it’s like… ALL GONE!! ALL IN RUINS!!! Boo~hoo~hoo~!!!

Today I got my hair rebonded… and I felt like it’s such a mistake lah! Super flat hair is so… devoid of personality. And I think it makes me look so super Ah Lian! Anyway, I think my hair looks better tied up than down, so I have to suffer with hair flapping everywhere for the next 3 days since I can’t tie my hair or wash it. Sigh… also 3 days of growing fat as I can’t go to the gym. T___T

Okay, I’ll blog more with pictures next time since I’m so home-bound now. Toodles! Enjoy the long weekend! :D
