Completely Random Bits Of My Life

Christmas Weekend In Pictures December 27, 2011

Based on my expected personal calendar, you might think that I’ve been busy this Christmas taking care of my nephew. Yes, I’m becoming an “aunty” soon, and it’s nothing that I’m embarassed or shy about! I embrace this with total joy! Who wouldn’t want to become an aunty? In fact, I hope to become an aunty many many times over! But guess what? My sister didn’t give birth on the schedulled date after all, and she didn’t want to be induced. Don’t ask me why, my mom and I don’t know the reason. Maybe she read an article somewhere that said that babies who are NOT induced are 300x cleverer than babies which are induced. :P Nephew oh nephew, when will you come out and play? Don’t you know that Aunty Leechie has bought a very nice rocker for you?!?!

Anyway, hope you all had a great Christmas celebration! I definitely enjoyed myself very much. Everything was extra “Christmassy” for me this year, let me show you why…

Tron delivered turkey to my house on Christmas Eve’s Eve. Hehee! Thank you Uncle John & Aunty Jane! :D :D My dad and mom were so happy, Tron even described my dad’s face as “glowing”. Lol!

But I’m getting ahead of myself… here’s what we did, in chronological order:

Had breakfast in Backofen in Sri Hartamas! Not a bad brekkie place, Sookie & Ching, can consider here for the next meet-up! :D I had the meatloaf sandwich, while Tron had the big breakfast.

The place is apparently famous for their pastries, but didn’t buy anything to eat later because the breakfast was already super filling! After that, Tron went off to The Guitar Shop, and tried to train me to become a guitar enthusiast. But I’m so completely lost. I know nuts about guitars, what more electric guitars that seem to have a lot of random things you need to plug in in order to get the “sound” that you want. Dull was very kind and tried to give me a laymans’ understanding of such things, but you know how noob I am? I’m so noob that I didn’t even know that John Mayer plays a guitar. Hahahahaahahaha. I was like “He’s a guitarist? Then how come his songs don’t have him playing guitar?”
Dull : “Er.. his songs DO have him playing on a guitar.”
Me : “Oh… but how come got no guitar solos and shit like that.”
Dull : “Got lah!”
Me : “Oh….”
Cue awkward silence.

Because Tron was spending soooo much time at The Guitar Shop, he decided to temporarily place me at Starbucks so I won’t get bored. I got bored anyway because the Starbucks at Sri Hartamas doesn’t have much reading material. I’m contemplating stashing a book with me wherever I go from now on so that whenever Tron decides to indulge in random “projects” like this, I will be suitably well-accompanied.

Having said that, have you gotten a Starbucks card? It’s quite worth it. Works like a debit card, and once you register the card, you get a free grande size of any drink.

After accompnying  the boy til the evening, he sent me home so that we can get ready for the church Xmas eve event. We had an early dinner before going to church. USUALLY, we would have dinner at Jaya 33 (as it’s near to our church), and USUALLY, we would eat at D’Italianne Kitchen, because both of us like the food there. However, the other day, the staff got some stick up their butt or something and were rude to me. I wanted to eat a DIK for lunch (indulge a bit) as that day I was on leave and the other alternative was Subway. I had just finished gym, and at the same time, wanted to make it quick because I had just remembered that I left my “other” wallet in the office (the wallet with important documents but no money, lol), so I thought I would just eat a salad and then go get my wallet.

When I went into D’Italianne Kitchen, it was around 11am, and I noticed they were still setting the cutleries. I said, “Excuse me?” to one of the staff and she shouted at me, “YES? WHAT YOU WANT?” FFFFUUUU… I was like.. “Are you all ready to open?” and she sulkily replied, “Give me 15 minutes.” Like what the farrrrk. It’s already 11am, not like I’m thrashing your place at 8:30am or something ridiculous. Her face and her voice and her attitude was such a turn off I just said, “No thanks then” and wound up eating Subway.

Maybe she just had a bad day. Cos USUALLY the staff there are quite nice and placid people. But for now I wanna boycott that restaurant as long as I can (before “for convenience sake”  I end up there again. I know right, such weak principles). She’s lucky that Tron was not with me, because if someone shouts at him, he would think that it is a challenge to have a “who can shout the loudest” match. Tron will surely win. ;P

So we wound up in Vietnam Kitchen, which has pretty good food too… only problem is that whenever I’m there, I only eat their beef noodles. =p

The church celebration was pretty interesting. A lot of song & dance and praise & worship and also an interesting piece by my pastor called “the 5 wonders of Christmas” which is really an eye-opener about the whole miracle at Bethlehem. I don’t want to expound too much about the rest of the Xmas presentation, less I wind up like David Sedaris and his critical reviews of school plays. :P

Sunday church service was a continuation from the previous day’s sermon, the only difference was that I was serving in the welcoming committee. Oh, I didn’t tell you about that huh? Yes, I’m part of the welcoming committee in the church. You might wonder at an anti-social person like me being all friendly and wishing you a good morning and asking you whether I can find you a seat right upfront. This is both the mystery and the answer all in one. To solve my anti-social-ness and fear of public speaking, this is a solution that has been provided to me. I could write an entire post dedicated to what I’m doing, but I don’t think most would appreciate my humour. :P

Once church service was over, Tron and I had to settle some outstanding contract stuff, and then he sent me home… right in time to have the turkey celebration my mom was throwing! And she was planning to exclude me, some thanks I get considering my boyfriend is the one who supplied the turkey! Ok, the story is that my mom was pissed off at me and my dad. My dad for reasons that are personal, but she’s pissed off at me because I was in the middle of working (working from home) and I was on the phone (in a conference call) and she starts nagging me why I didn’t take the clothes in. WTF? I  didn’t even notice it had started DRIZZLING. Secondly, I was in a CONFERENCE call. Thirdly, did I mention that I was working? And what was she doing that was so important that she didn’t realise it was drizzling? She was watching TV!! So anyway I was quite agitated over that, so she got pissed off at me.

Anyway, when the turkey came in, she suddenly became a forgiving mother again (she had been pissed at me for nearly a week) and somehow it turned on this “party / social” person inside her and she decided to throw a lunch party, centered around the turkey. She invited a few relatives, but to be honest, only the “core family” turned up lah. Hahahahaa! Still, it didn’t stop her from making a party out of it. Aside from the turkey & stuffing, my very pregnant sister volunteered to make pesto pasta and roasted vegetables, and my mom made jelly and popped open a bottle of red.

It was the most Christmassy celebration we ever had. Eating turkey, pasta, drinking red wine, watching Christmas with the Kranks… that’s the closest we ever got. =)

Too bad that she is still pissed off at my dad, for reasons that I will tell you in a separate entry. Different from the first reason. Hahahahhaa!

Boxing day — no sales in Malaysia (well, none that are tied to “Boxing Day” I suppose). Wound up having bak kut teh with Tron in Teluk Pulai, Klang. He said that BKT is so fattening, that he can only bring me to eat it once a year. -___-” Can you believe it? We ate this meal in the morning (around 8:30am) and until night, I was still full to the brim!! Insanity…

How was your Christmas celebration? Hope it was meaningful and fun! And hopefully I’ll be able to post up a few more blog entries before it turns 2012…

Around Facebook January 24, 2011

Pictures from random events that people have tagged me in. Hmm. :)

Bringing Passion to the Workplace … we were doing a type of cardio aerobics called charobics. You can see how seriuz bizniz I am about the whole thing.

Amuthen comes to Malaysia … his name is Amuthen ok, not Abuthen. Our colleague from Sri Lanka branch… from L-R : Hema, Em, Amuthen, Mr NXY, Raymond, myself, Put and William. Rather random bunch as this isn’t our whole team, and it’s a mixture of both the SB (Cambodia & Laos) team and the treasury + Sri Lanka support. :) Well, all of us are under Em.

Christmas Cell-ebration … this was on the 18th of December and it was held at Shanker’s house. You should’ve been there! Great food, much carolling and fellowship, lotsa funny prizes to be won, funny icebreaking session… there is a picture of Dora’s eyelashes in here because she was so drama and thought that the Christmas party was a super glam one…. so she really dressed up for it! Then you see, there are guys just wearing shorts here. :P

I’m only sad cos I forgot to take a picture of my mini cheesecakes. T_T And it’s not pictured in the spread of food here because it’s dessert and only taken out at the end. Even Elaine’s lovely creme caramels not pictured. Sigh…

Baked lamb rack, french baguette to go with mushroom soup — both made by JP, spicy sausage & pea pasta, baked chicken, quiche (forgot who made, but I think people from Elaine’s cell) and the mashed potato is Dora’s signature dish.

Prisca and her lucky draw prize. FYI, I was in charge of the lucky draw numbering and the bits of paper to draw out the lucky draw numbers too! Nice a not the font… ? :P It is Orial (you can download it from dafont.com)

JP got Elaine’s submission for the lucky draw. We were saying that even the packaging is worth more than RM5 ady.

This is me laughing like mad after I got what I was supposed to describe for the ice-breaking session. Honestly, I don’t even remember why I’m laughing so madly… Not like the job descriptions are vulgar… hahaha.

MinSer on guitar!

Dora’s dramatic lashes… fuuh!

Food spread… yummers! :D

Carolling session

Farewell to MS & JL … minus 2 people from our cell as they will be moving over to Miri for an undetermined season… we had steamboat (prepared by JP) at TN and Andrew’s house in Bandar Putri Puchong. It’s on a hilltop kinda area… at first I thought it was a new development because there’s still a lot of renovation going on around the area! But apparently they’ve been there for quite some time already. :) Car-pooled there with JP, Pauline and Dora… arrived early so that we could make the dumplings for the steamboat. While we were eating, we felt like there wasn’t enough food, but in the end there was a LOT leftover. I am very inspired by the “filling” for the dumpling that JP made… hmmm… I think I will make it for CNY potluck this year!

All the food!!! And the “soup” for the steamboat was made by JP — some concoction involving chicken and soya beans.

The whole group. Back row: KS, Kenny, Allen, MS, JL, me, Tina, Kelly, Samuel. Front row: Andrew O, JP, Alan, Pauline, Dora, TN and Andrew T.

TN and Tina with baby Alyssa.

The males of the cell group : Kenny, Andrew T, Allen, KS, MS, Alan, Samuel and Andrew O.

Me with the celebrity couple of the moment. FYI, JL’s red top looked exceptionally good in all the photos! It really stands out. JL so clever in picking out what to wear. :)

The females of the cell group (back) : JP, TN, JL, me, Tina. (Front) – Kelly, Pauline and Dora.

Random one because I was avoiding the camerawoman Pauline… finally she tak tahan and asked me to join in this group shot. Myself, Allen and Andrew O. Very “blue” photo hor?

Always must have 1 serious photo and 1 crazy one. Hahahha. How come Kelly and Samuel not being crazy?

The most awesome dessert ever! It’s a pavlova, and it was the first time that JP made it! And it’s such a success that within 15 minutes, it’s all gone! The bottom is meringue, the middle is fresh cream and topped off with fresh mango & lychee. This Andrew T very bad… ate some, then asked JP for some more for his wife (who was upstairs looking after the baby).. then he ate half of it, then asked some more for the wife (saying that JP gave too little the first time around). Hahahaha!!

Digestion period… I am marvelling over the polaroid photos that Dora took of all of us with MS & JL. Sh-sh-shake it like a polaroid picture…~

Being a “pun mooi” (maid) at the end of the day as very bad if we use Andrew T & TN’s place and leave it a mess ya..

Another shot of the girls of the cell…~

JL & MS with the present that we got for them. Must hang up in their house in Miri! :P

The early comers… hahaha.

Wishing you a good life in Miri… may blessings pour upon you so that you can be a blessing to others as well.

Past Two Weeks In Pictures December 27, 2010

“So never worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” – International Standard Version

The Christmas season has been perfectly lovely. I met so many people, and they were all so nice and friendly. There was a lot of feasting done. When they say “filled with Christmas good cheer”, does cheer = food? Because if so, then yes, indeed I am full of good cheer. The only dark line in my cloud of silver is an overseas phonecall from my colleagues in Cambodia who were reverting to me some test results. Some test results on  Christmas day itself. Ok, I know they are working… therefore, I should too? I really have no idea what was the purpose of the phonecall. In the end, they seemed satisfied to write to me the problems. Actually, I know it is a high priority project… but why is it of high priority when earlier you didn’t seem to see any urgency for it? What was I supposed to do, at that exact moment, on Christmas day, in Klang, about to meet Tron’s relatives? Was I supposed to drop all Xmas plans for the day and ask him to fetch me back home, so that I could go back to work too? The only outcome from that whole 5 minute conversation was that I would deal with it on Monday. And that I would obviously be worrying about this matter for the rest of the weekend. Good job. It’s times like this that I absolutely abhor my job.

At times like this, I just have to remember the quote in blue on top — yeah, enough for the day are it’s own problems. Let’s not add to more of it. I just need to steel myself to go into work on Monday and… do my best. Need to get some of that gung ho, go-get-em mojo back…

So to talk about the more cheerful aspects of the past two weeks — I had been thoroughly pampered from all. Earlier, my sister came back from Beijing bearing presents. I got a cute (fake) fifi lapin x le sportsac purse  and a blue lumberjack shirt. The purse is utterly useful for my work lunches because I frequently go out with my wallet  & my handphone. It’s getting cumbersome to carry those two items in my hand, so this purse can fit some spare change & my hp instead! (And occasionally – car keys). I totally adore the shirt too, even though when CJ first saw it, he said, “Nice shirt… table cloth material right?” WTF WTF.

I forgive him because I occasionally give him and his team hell. There was once when his team mate answered the phone, and the guy was like, “CJ is not around. Who is on the line?” Me : “LC.”

CJ’s team mate : “Er… who?”

Me : “LC. LC!!! How dare you not know who LC is!!”

In my defense, I was totally laughing when I said the last part, ok. It was not one of those Miranda Priestly from The Devil Meets Prada kind of moments. But CJ did not forget it.

Had lunch at Ole-Ole Bali recently, and I totally loved it, but Tron says that the place is “so opressive”. Whatever la… I got 10% discount member card already. :p Anyone up for lunch there? I think the nasi campur there is so yummy. =)

The pictures are so pretty! How could anyone feel oppressed there?

Anyway! Random pictures of Christmas presents and all sorts. Hope you had a great haul too! I gave some of my presents away to my family members since they so ke lian without any presents.

White sermon notes folder from JP, piggie toothbrush holder & black organiser from Tron, diamante bracelet from Tron’s mother, headphones + nailpolish from Tron’s sister, cup from MS & Jen Ling, Cheezels from KS, candle from Pauline, lion-flower clip thingy from Kenny, KitKat radio thingy (haven’t figured how to operate) from Tina, green notebook from Elaine, red Snowman 4GB thumbdrive from Dora, Big Tudor Gold Choc bar from Xmas gift exchange (still haven’t blogged about it. ;P), small Tudor Gold choc bar from Allen, and smaller Almond Van Houten choc bar from Alan.

Cat and duck from Tron… the yellow fluffy duckie is a pillow, but I sleep with it now. Currently remains nameless. The kitty cat is a door stop but it’s too big to go under my door, so it sits next to my desk and looks up at me with those ever-so inquisitive eyes. I melt! She’s Katina Bag because when I was hugging the yellow duck in the car, Tron asked, “Where’s the cat?” (he sound like he hates the cat… I imagine if I had a real life cat, this is how he would ask about it) and I replied, “Cat in da bag”. Hence.

Also from Tron… long story how I ended up with this keychain, so let’s just say that it was a gift from him to me… before Christmas. :) What did I get Tron? Let me tell you a lil story. Just as he was unwrapping the gift, he paused (before he saw the item) and said, “Let me guess… it’s a shirt. It’s grey. It’s got a yellow logo on it somewhere. And it’s funny.” And it was a Spongebob Squarepants shirt that I got from Pull & Bear. I have no idea how he does this… I would like to think it’s not that I’m predictable. Seriously, even I myself didn’t know what I was going to get him for Xmas until it was the 24th of December!

You can ride on the segway for RM15 for 5 minutes in Subang Parade now. I find it very hard to manouver. The original machine costs somewhere around RM32,000. It was a breeze for Tron though.

Restaurant New Paris lunch with Tron… simple ‘yau mak’ veg, cheese ribs, sesame chicken and jiu pai tofu. A bit too much for 2 people only hor? :)

Dinner with parents at Gao Yan Guan today… we had kangkung belacan, tofu with fish paste, pork belly in red wine sauce and salted chicken. Yummy. Only RM89 for 4 people.

All I Want For Christmas Is… Well It Ain’t You December 23, 2010

Christmas is just around the cornerrrrrr! What gifts are you getting for your loved ones? I don’t really have many people to buy Christmas presents for, and as I have to give out $$$$ for Chinese New Year (annual “hao soon” angpow), I don’t really have a giant budget to work with either.

I thought of writing out what I will get for each person this year, but some of the people listed may or may not be reading my blog. So to be on the safe side, that will be written elsewhere. :p But since this is my blog and I don’t mind lots of presents, here are some stuff that I would lurrrrrvvveee for Christmas (or birthday, or simply-wanna-buy-for-LC) gift ideas for moi. =)

a. Cooking / Baking Utensils

Specifically looking for stuff like : mixer, juicer, food processor, cupcake moulds, cake bundt tin, springform pan, bread maker, blender. Sounds as if I moved into my own place and looking to stock up my kitchen hor? *shy*

I bought myself an RM95 mixer from Carrefour, because I was tired of constantly borrowing my sister’s mixer. Plus, I think she was tired of me as well! ;) I was making mini cheesecakes again for the cell christmas celebration, and it went down well with the people who attended, so I’m very much encouraged by my baking endeavours so far! :)

b. Make-up
I am a make-up-holic, and though I frequently say that I have way too much make-up, there *are* a few things that I would want to stock up on:
~ EverydayMinerals.com foundation. I use light olive and I use only 3 formula types : semi-matte, original glo, matte— I don’t use intensive
~ EverydayMinerals eyeshadows… pearl, shimmer or matte also ok with me. :P *thumbs up*

~ NYX make-up sets or eyeshadows
~ I don’t go for lip glosses anymore (very sticky…), so wanna stock up more on lipsticks. I wanna try Rimmel, more Maybelline and NYX stuff. =D

~ Benefit’s “Touch Me… Then Try To Leave Me” body cream, their lust dusters look very nice too, but I really should stop myself… and I’ve always wanted to try Benetint…

Mmm… scratch that, I’m not that much of a make-up-holic. I won’t do strange things like paste falsies 1cm away from my bottom lashes, heck, I hate wearing falsies too. I don’t draw my brows cos I think I have too much hair there anyway wtf. When I was in F2, I still remember my friend DULL drew a picture of me with what looked like two caterpillars above my eyes WTF. I don’t use lip liner and don’t curl my lashes. Not because I’ve got such long lushes lashes either, mind. Solely because I can’t be bothered. Curl ady or not, nobody notice also. *cry*

c. A new work bag
Something professional looking for my work bag. My current one is from Elle and I’ve used it for 3-4 years… and the wire for the bag is poking out and occasionally scratches those people trying to get near to me. Hahahaha… (mainly it is Tron la.. he scolded me once for my bag scratching him… it’s my bag that’s scratching you what, why scold me?)

d. Shower Stuff
I think that I mentioned before that visiting pharmacies are a joy for me because I just love trying new shower gels, shampoos, body lotions and such? I actually have an Ikea laundry bag filled with pharmaceutical supplies because they are irresistable for me. =p Plus, ever since I dyed my hair, I need all the hair treatment that I can get my greedy little paws on. At the moment, I have been eyeing:

~ haircare stuff from Liese, e.g: Hair Serum Cocktail, Juicy Berry Hair Mist
~ shower stuff from Lush (plan to get in HK next year, yeah I’m going there again!) – Mirror Mirror neck cream, The Olive Branch shower gel, H’suan Wen Hua hair therapy, Celestial Moisturiser or Vanishing Cream.
~ masks from My Diary Mask (something like that, right now they have a promotion. Used to be RM50 for pack of 7, now RM29.90, muwahahha)
~ not really picky actually, as I like shower stuff… just that I boycott Fruiser and Palmolive only because when I use those brands, I get eczema! :(

e. Sportswear
Includes bags….! I gave both my blue Reebok bag and almost giving away my red Puma silky bag to my mom ady. She always sneakily asks me to loan her a bag… then she doesn’t return it and I don’t ask back for it (cos I honestly forgot about it) and then the next time I remember that I even own a bag, I see it filled with schoolbooks. =p And to “inspire” me to continue working out after my knee is all better, I think I deserve some new threads la… ;) Aiming more for 3-quarter pants and sports bras… enough tees for me…

f. Sunglasses
Tron introduced me to Oakley Polarized frames and now I’m so waiting to get my own pair. However, while I was mulling over the designs, I tried on a pair of Gucci oversized sunglasses and I look so cool! Hahahaha…
Me : “I look like Datin or not, Roberto?”
Tron : “Datinnnn…. “

OK, I got my own sunglasses already, you might have seen it in the previous Sg entry. ;P But those Gucci oversized sunnies are still tempting me. Goshdarnit.

g. Books
No romance crap please… I like cookbooks and aim to collect every Jamie Oliver cookbook. I also like books that teach great, classic Malaysian recipes (I look forward to the launch of RasaMalaysia’s cookbook!). And I like anything to do with funny economics related stuff. Always want to read, but stingy and end up reading the book while standing around in Borders. Muwahahha…

h. Shoes
The state of my shoes at the moment :
- Black wedges for work : sides of the shoe are peeling out, too stingy to buy new one
- Denim wedges for weekends : front part of the shoe has been fraying… bought cheap Thai-made shoes to replace…
- Thai wedges for weekends : … but the cheap shoes have very soft soles, so little stones keep getting wedged into the sole, wtf?
That’s basically it. All other shoes have at least 3.5″ – 4″ heels which are for VERY special occasions and not for the purposes outlined on top. It’s so ironic that the things that I need to use the most often, are the ones that I have problems with (probably caused by wear and tear la) while the ones for special occasions.. look like they just came out from the shoe box.

Hmm.. could only come up with 8 items that I desperately need. I left out the house and car this year. Everyone already knows I want a condo, and a Mazda 6. No one is actually willing to donate said items to me though. ;p
