I Can’t Dance… I Can’t Sing Part 3 // Sew Sew Sew Scandalous March 15, 2007

::Originally posted on Completely Random::

I swear, Streamyx runs on anger. The other day, I had a good experience with one of the call center dudes. I called up regarding connection issues, it was fixed within a day. The next day, when I tried to sign in to blog about “Finally – Streamyx DOESN’T make me angry”, I am unable to connect. What’s this man? It must be cheap to run a broadband service on anger. There’s plenty of it, and if you find (amazingly) that anger is ceasing, just disconnect a few networks. >_< If things don't get better by tomorrow… grrr… just wait!

Anyway, I’m feeling a bit more positive and optimistic about the previous performance. Got quite a few good comments from some managers in IT. Hmm, what can I say. Either:
a. I *am* a fabulous faker after all!;
b. It all doesn’t matter in the end because everyone is sitting *so* far from the stage;
c. Company XYZ staff are just very supportive of each other;
Either way, I’m cool with it. Jogoya this Friday! =D And found out the Jogoya dinner is NOT the appreciation dinner. There is *another* appreciation dinner later on in a hotel! Wah…. good payment! Good deal! Worth the sacrifice! T_T

Here are some more pictures for your laughing viewing pleasure. These were passed on to me from another colleague, kudos to him/her. *if on a small chance you stumble across this, lemme know how to credit you for these pictures* :

Hehe, forgot to update you all on my sewing project (as if anyone is interested)! Anyway, all I have to say is… DO YOU KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO SEW IN A STRAIGHT LINE!!!11!! I was already having tonnes of trouble trying to put together my ma’s sewing machine. Not to say it’s a really old model or anything, just that it took me a while to figure out how to put in the spools of thread. Then when I stepped on the foot pedal to power the machine… NOTHING HAPPENED!

Oh yea, forgot to flip the “on” switch. =P Stepped on the foot pedal gently. Nothing! Stepped on the foot pedal with all my might. The needle suddenly jerked up and down madly for a while. Success! However, imagine pressing on a foot pedal “with all your might” just for about 2cm of stitching. Craziness! Started sweating like crazy.

So it goes without any further saying that all I managed to sew on Sunday was the trimmings of the front piece of my to-be-fabulous-halter-neck-top. =B It almost embarasses me to inform you that I was thinking I could be sewing all these by now :

Oh well, at least the lack-of-Internet allows me to concentrate on my mini-projects more. After a month of so of no progress on PER.M, I have finally created a ‘concise view’ of my expenditure. Instead of listing down all the daily transactions, they are grouped by the type of expenditure. Oh, it took less than 10 minutes to code everything. Why am I so unmotivated?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The dates don’t make sense because the transactions are grouped by the expenditure type, and the date comes from the earliest transaction for that expenditure type. Hope you get what I mean. Anyway, it’s cool, at a glance you can see where all your money flies to. (Yes, I censored out some ‘sensitive data’.. hoho).

Anyway, I’m left with about RM700 to stretch til the end of this month. *sigh* That’s gonna be gym and reading from here til month-end. Oh yeah, I’ve finished reading Thinner, it’s a little different from the movie! It’s quite thrilling, although I didn’t really feel for either party (Gypsies vs FatMan William Halleck). The best part of the novel was when Ginelli (Halleck’s best buddy) tried to get the gypsy to take off the curse. Aside from that, not something I’d particularly recommend to you.

Ta!~

I Can’t Dance… I Can’t Sing Part 2 March 12, 2007

::Originally posted on Completely Random::

Hihi. Finally 2 months of dance practice is over in a 3′ 55″ performance. I’m so sad… it’s seriously one of my worst performance, but whatever le, the VVIPs in front were clapping (even though they didn’t clap for every performance). So there’s a lot of things that are forgiven as long as you wear sexy clothes and er, fishnet stockings. =) Haven’t had time to blog, have been rushing for rehearsals. Can’t believe that I rather go to work than have time-off for rehearsals.

Seriously, this is the final act la.

Anyway, the Tan Sri’s birthday dinner is seriously one large event to organize. Lots of people involved, and to throw in a staff performance with 110 staff. Organizing them. Making sure they come to practice on time. Need to give time to the choir to practice as well. Need time to give the professional dancers time to practice as well. A management seminar to organise in the afternoon as well. So can’t really blame them when most of the time we are waiting around instead of doing actual rehearsal. From Thursday til Sunday, all the time I spent waiting, I actually managed to finish reading Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys. THAT MUCH TIME IN BETWEEN YOU KNOW.

And it’s not like we had much place to sit around and wait either. The Sunway staff didn’t want us sitting on the banquet chairs because they didn’t want us to mess up their arrangement. So we had to bum around outside the convention center. On the staircase. On random chairs lying around outside. Huhuhu.

But anyway, as I said, it’s all over.

Here’s some pics of our rehearsals (at the gym room at HQ, and at the convention center itself):

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I didn’t get a chance to take picture with the performers of the “One” act on the night itself, so here are some pictures of them during the full dress rehearsal at HQ. Quite cheerful costumes don’t you think? I much prefer wearing what they have on than my own costume. =(

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is how the stage looks like… It’s much nicer on the night itself. This is still a ‘work in progress’. Amazing how they can set up such large backdrop in a short while.

The best part about getting time off work is that you get to eat at much nicer places. That’s what you get when you work in a place that’s so far away from civilisation (*koff*koff*). At least we don’t get as much traffic jams in the morning! =)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Curry udon & konnyaku jelly at Genki Sushi on Friday. =) After work, had time to rush off to 1U to watch “Protege” (highly recommended from Daniel), but was just too damn tired. O_o

Chicken Rice Shop on Saturday. Had the Single Chicken set, which included 2 pieces of Pai Tee, bean sprouts, one set chicken (I took steamed, as always), dessert & drink. Reasonable, for only about RM10.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
But the best part of Chicken Rice Shop (to me) is the bean sprouts. They could call themselves Taugeh Rice Shop and I’ll still go there to eat. It’s damn damn bloody good!!!11!!!

The funniest part about eating at Chicken Rice Shop was that I ordered the Spicy Vegetable Mix (Or was it Soup? Don’t remember). Anyway, if you order it as an “add-on” on top of the set, you can get the Large for RM5.99 only! The waiter asked me:
“Are you sure you want the large? Or the small?”
Me (feeling like a fatty for ordering the large) : “Er… make it a small then.”
Waiter : “Small is RM6.99. I tell you, it’s much more worth it if you order it as an add-on. Only RM5.99.”
Me (confused) : “Er… okay then, I’ll order it as an add-on.

So this was what arrived shortly:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I remember thinking, “Yor, this you call large? Wonder what is the small then. Pff!”. Then as per my usual eating style, I waited for the rest of my food to come before tucking in. Just when I had finished playing with my handphone / reading til the end of a current chapter, just when I raised a spoon to my dish… another waiter came and said there was a mix-up. This was actually the LARGE spicy veg mix. Omg!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

APA NI!! In the end I ta-powed the entire thing, and I ate it over the course of 2 dinners and 1 lunch. O_o

Anyway. I wasn’t feeling too hot the past few days during rehearsal. I was having an upset stomach, hobbling around on skinned feet (that’s what cheap strappy shoes will do to you!) and basically all-round lack-of-sleep.

We arrived for rehearsal on Saturday at 10am, but was only 11:30am when we had our first run-through. I was given a hard-time because I nearly tripped on the staircase. Just my luck. Allll those times of not falling down and when the bigwig is observing, I just had to trip. After that, he fed my paranoia of tripping on the staircase. Not a good feeling, man.

We were given 1 hour for a quick lunch, then met back at 1:30pm for make-up. But it was only 3pm when they managed to clear out a room for the make-up artistes. And it was only about 5:30 / 6:00pm when I finally got my make-up and hair done. Next time I’ll just go and watch a movie, or take a realllllllly long lunch. Anyway, I like my hair and make-up, so no complaints there. Here’s lots of camwhorage (in various degrees of quality) :

I also tried on the pantyhose and fishnets we were supposed to wear that night. It really helped the cheap shoe straps from cutting into my feet, but increased my paranoia of falling on stage because it was sooooo slippery. I couldn’t balance! Thinking back, this is really the first time I had to dance with heels on. *sheepish*

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Admiring my stocking-ed feet. Pantyhose are seriously a miracle of garment engineering. I was beginning to think it was impossible to roll the pantyhose over my gigantic legs, but somehow they managed to go all the way up! And STAY up! Miracle!

Admiring my fishnet-clad thighs and my obscenely bright skirt.

Since I’m feeling tired, here is a quick run through of the pictures prior to the performance. Oh, and my personal opinion on the stuff that went wrong (but miraculously, still got applauded for):
1) Right before our segment, the two guys who were supposed to push Rodney out on the sofa couldn’t find Rodney. Everyone panicked. In the end, turns out he was hiding behind a prop waiting for US while we were waiting for him. O_O
2) Thanks to #1, the sofa got pushed out to the incorrect position, and EH and myself didn’t manage to reach to sofa in time for the first freeze pose. Look like kinda weird (hopenooneelsenoticed)
3) SUDDENLY got a running nose on stage (WTF), so was sniffling a bit. HOw to be sexy and sniffling?
4) SUDDENLY realised that it was very tricky to DANCE in high heels with pantyhose and fishnet stockings on. Somehow didn’t fall flat on my face, but how to be sexy and having paranoid thoughts on falling on your face?

Ok, don’t want to grouse over this matter forever. This wraps up yet another chapter on my dancing/performing while working in company XYZ. Already told my colleague who is in-charge-of-all-this, Never Again!

Anyway, since I was really tired and feeling overwhelmed from the day before, I had to skip “the infiltration of Curve FF”. I’ll do it next week. >=p Instead, I spent Sunday watching Scoop and Requiem for a Dream. Scoop was unexpected funny and sexy (lovelovelove Scarlett Johannsen and Hugh Jackman!), while Requiem has always been my favourite film. Ellen Burstyn does such a wonderful job in this movie.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I’ve also started reading Thinner (saw that my bro bought it from Payless Books!)… its not really scary, but it’s still a really interesting novel. My sister saw the movie and told me the whole story already, so I’m just reading it for the fun of it. Heh. Here’s to a whole new work week. O_o”

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Leech Update March 8, 2007

::Originally posted on Completely Random::

Here are some random thoughts! :
1. Esso petrol stations > Shell petrol stations. For some reason, my car’s performance is better with Esso, and Esso’s pay-at-the-pump is faster & accepts the Smiles Reward Points card. Shell’s pay-at-the-pump takes sooooo long, and it ALWAYS rejects my Bonuslink points (but the Bonuslink card can be accepted when it’s being paid “inside”). Plus, Esso was the first to have the digital air pressure gauge installed. ;)

2. Americans love Michael Buble, and refuse to let anyone else sing songs that he has sung by someone else. :P E.g: Nick getting kicked out of American Idol for singing Fever, AJ getting voted out of AI after singing Feeling Good,, ditto for Leslie. Joy!

3. Based on the other day’s Wang Lee Hom concert, I was starting to think that the “chinked out” music genre that he created was a mixture of hip-hop and chinese music. -__-” So I thought he was kinda just relabelling and recycling what people like Machi have been doing. Turns out that “chinked out” is his experimentation with music from smaller tribes around China. It sounds cool, but didn’t really see any of that during the concert. =\\ And btw, Star made yetanothermistake. Lust,Caution wouldn’t be the first time Lee Hom appears on the big screen. He was in China Strike Force, remember? Maybe not as a starring role, but the point is that it isn’t his first foray into acting!

Here are some (MORE) of the books that I’ve read recently! :
1. Sputnik Sweetheart (Haruki Murakami). Quite an interesting love story with a twist. Loved the ending. Got quite a few unexplained items in the story, need to suspend believe when reading it. I like how the protagonist describes what love is and how at the end of the day it’s just a feeling, that doesn’t recognise gender. It seems so… correct the way it was put. One of my favourite Murakami books. Oh yeah, one of the things I realise I keep saying about his books are about how easy-to-read, easy-flowing and enjoyable they are. But then I realised that they are translated from Japanese. I wonder how it’d be like to read his books as-they-were-written. *wistful*

2. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy / The Restaurant At the End Of The Universe / Life, The Universe & Everything / So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish / Young Zaphod Plays It Safe (Douglas Adams). I really like novels like this, where every single detail interlocks with the following story and comes together oh-so-nicely at the end. The characters here are really one-of-a-kind. Haha, I really love Marvin the Paranoid Android and Zaphod Beeblebrox. Truth to be told, this story is going about harum-scarum that sometimes I don’t even know the significance of what is going on, or the point of an entire chapter dedicated to something completely pointless. It just gets a bit tiring. I guess I had hyped myself too much over this book, so now it kinda falls a little flat (IMHO). But overall, an idea of a universe of Adam’s imagining is still pretty darn cool. Currently reading Mostly Harmless

Here are the status of my mini-projects at the moment! :
1. Sewing – Gonna be sewing these pieces together (finally cut out the pattern!) Last weekend was kinda busy.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

2. PER.M – My personal money software also left off where I last was. Thing is, inputs+outputs is pretty much all I need, and the next module to-be-developed is a large one. QUERIES. The designing stage is pretty long… so I need to spend time planning the program flow first. Or maybe I should skip the toughie and do my limits checking module first? *lazybum*

3. Book – I’ve done about 5 chapters prior to reading Hitchhiker, and after reading it, I feel like I’ve copied Douglas Adam-without-meaning-to. I’m not saying I = Douglas Adam, but some elements are kind-of-the-same, and now I feel depressed and want to completely rewrite everything… =(

4. Freelancing – Wow, I love the latest freelancing portal I joined. Got a tonne of projects, which I cannot contribute to due to lack of time. The deadlines are insanely short, but the work sounds interesting. What I didn’t like was the fact that most of the projects didn’t specify what technology to be used, and when I asked, they said it was up to the developer! But how can? I need to know what you have or have not installed on your web server, and what kinda database you are using, etc etc, no? Strange la. How to deliver within 1 week if like that.

5. Archiving Completely Random – 2 Photobucket accounts later, I have archived up to June 2006 over here. Check it out! =)

6. Earning money online – currently part of 3 – 4 online money making sites. Sadly, most of them require you to collect until USD50.00 worth before you can cash out. That’s insane (for me la, since my daily hits are so low). Aside from advertising, I’m also part of this survey-taking website, where you can only cash out USD50 after taking about 20 surveys! After joining for 2 months, I have only done 2 surveys! So you can imagine how much longer it will be before I cash my cheque. Other sites, I think you can figure out what they are from my Leceh Leech site. And yes, that’s why I am promoting my archived entries more often nowadays. I swear I won’t put ads on insatiably.net though. ^_^

Here’s my update on dancing / performing!
We *finally* got to see our costumes! Due to a mix-up with another tailor, we had to get our costumes from a rent-a-place instead of getting ‘em specially sewn. ;p At first I was worried that we would have to deal with a “colorful” character, as it seems that colorful characters like to own costume shops. Go figure. However, this guy was nice & friendly & polite. Might think about going to him to get an outfit for theme awards this year. =)

Although the 3 of us (me, EeHui, Ivy) are doing the same sort of dance, the choreographer told us to get 3 different types of outfit as we had different body types. Also, she said the overall effect is “similar outfit, but same kinda sexy”. THAT IS SO NOT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE END. EeHui got this really superbly sexy jersey-material gown, Ivy got a rainbow-sequinned gown with a high slit… and I…. I….

I’ll show you pictures after the event is over on Saturday la. It’s real s-l-u-t-t-y wei. Dunno how I’m going to go through with it.

Here I am doing more sewing, patching up the top part of the outfit which was ripped at the seams. Hmm.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

At this juncture, you might sarcastically enquire as to what kinda body type I have that would warrant a top like that. All I can say is… well, turns out that I don’t have anything to say. *stoned*

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
At the costume shop… so nice & colorful. =)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I tried on lots of outfit before they settled on the black ensemble. There was also a very nice blue beaded dress (rejected : “Too Daytime”), this pink beaded top and a purple sequin skirt (rejected : “Too Poofy”), a red dress (rejected: “Too Simple”). So there you have it.

Actually, not quite priceless, but I hope you get what I mean.

And these are some pictures from lunch with the girls today @ Uncle Lim’s in Ikano. Arhhhh… I want Fasta Pasta (Don’t want to look like a carb-filled pig though) !! Drove all together 170km today. Subang -> Bangi -> Damansara -> Bangi – > Subang

Strange… there’s an Uncle Lim’s in Pyramid… one in Subang Parade (which I frequent)… yet I’ve never eaten there before! Today’s first time experience is quite good though, might be tempted to try the nasi lemak in Subang one of these days!

Yay! The performance is finally over, and I made a lot of random new friends, and a lot of nice people congratulated me and my dance partner on the performance and basically I had lots and lotsof fun! It was such a success… everyone gelled together so nicely! And I think the camaderie between the performers and the crowd was better than at the performance on the 5th, because here, everyone knew everyone else.

I think the boss liked the performances very much too. I really enjoyed dancing tonight, and I think everyone loved contributing to the performance. The right “mood” was there… totally enjoyable! The only sore point was that the video editted from our first performance came out and was played during this appreciation dinner. AND I APPEARED IN WHAT, LESS THAN HALF A SECOND? Maybe my back was caught on camera, but you know, I really couldn’t tell. I’m currently too much on my high from the dance me and colleague did to go and freeze frame the Matrix dance.

Although we had unrecorded leave to practice for this performance, I think we “worked” harder than people who don’t have to perform. Firstly, driving to KL sucked. I got lost and had Uma yelling, “What the hell are you doing near Sogo!!? Where the hell is Jalan Merpati?!!?” Then lots of practices and run-throughs. The first time the rest of the cast members saw our dance, they really died laughing. One of the cast members kept telling me something like, when I’m waiting for the others to sing, I look like I’m asleep, but when it’s my turn on the stage, I turn into a frisky monkey. Hahaha. It’s the adrenaline rush, I tell ya.

We had lunch in KLCC, and since my colleague scrounged up some backless top for me to wear for the performance, I had to buy those kinda bra to wear with backless tops. Hard to explain, but basically I went off by myself, telling my male colleagues I would meet them for lunch later. Thought I was being discreet and all. Later when I met them at the food court, they kept insisting on knowing what I had bought. And because I wasn’t all jumping at the opportunity to tell them, they decided to do some kinda guessing game instead. ALL KINDS OF HORRIBLY EMBARASSING ITEMS WERE MENTIONED. -_____- See, Cinz warned me that I would get bullied by them when I took part in this performance. :( I should’ve been more prepared!

After lunch, we went over to the Mandarin Oriental to prepare for the performance. My three colleagues decided to hitch a ride with me for the short distance, and all the way from the parking lot to Mandarin Oriental they were nagging me like my old driving instructor / my dad. But just like when I got nagged last time, I didn’t end up in tears, just laughed like hell. Maybe that’s why I always get into accidents, I’m just not serious about it? Anyway, my colleague kept saying, “Omg, this kopi-o license is really kopi-o” and shouting because I nearly hit a car behind me. Then finally, my car engine died just when i was easing my car into the parking bay. I was inches away from perfect parking and I thought it would shut them up. Instead, they all burst into laughter. :(

Then they tried to get me into trouble with the car that I nearly hit (turned out to be 2 other cast members). Went and complained to them playfully about what kinda kopi-o license I have. Ended up the two gals SCOLDED the three of my colleagues for being so lazy and making me drive them. MWAHHAHAHAA. And I apologised to the gals, and they insisted it was the guys who should apologise for shouting at me in the first place! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Karma! Poetic justice! Hehehe.

Anyway, it’s been a really really long day. Was a bit unsure on how to get back to Jln Tun Razak from Mandarin Oriental, so I fetched “Leanne” back to his car, and so he could give me directions. Hahaha, he also nearly died of exasperation when sitting in my car. *cries* The test of patience is to undergo a day of driving with me! Kekeke. :)

P.S: Just remembered… the red scarf I made yesterday – during the performance, I flung it offstage, and didn’t have the chance to retrieve it. There goes a night’s worth of sewing. Bloody hell!
