Ra-Ra-Ra-Random July 22, 2011
No other title can describe this post… just posting up random photos I found on my harddisk. Oh yeah, isn’t it amazing that I managed to post one blog post for each day of the week? Actually, I wrote everything during the weekend and schedulled it all for auto-posting.
I’m actually still busy at work. Busy catching up that is. -___- The scope of work at UVW Bank is so much bigger than stuff at XYZ Bank. I used to think my work at XYZ Bank was soooo busy because I was doing so many different systems and for overseas bank as well as offshore subsidiaries as well as the head office app (which I stopped for the last 2 years). But this one app is already so freaking big and there’s so many things to consider that I didn’t when I was supporting the overseas subsidiaries. The projects here are so exciting… its a feeling I haven’t had in a while.
Maybe some people will think — why leave a comfy job for MORE work then? Challenge yourself lor. It’s really different being in a local bank and in a world-reknown bank…
On the downside, I HATE driving on the Federal Highway to work! At the end of the day, it takes me about the same time to get to this new workplace which is nearer to my house, and the time it takes me to get to freaking Bangi! At least at Bangi I can speed to work… there’s no speeding on the Federal Highway in the morning. I go at 40kph MAX. I also don’t like the dodgy parking near the company… but I don’t want to complain la. Looking on the brighttttt side. I LOVE MAINFRAMES. *brainwashing myself*
This was actually taken on the eve of the Bersih rally. Left work on the dot at 6pm as I had to meet the pastor, remember? Federal Highway was crawling, and I was jealous of the other side of the road. See how clear it is?
Ok la, maybe got ONE or TWO cars occasionally.

Erm… ok, not so jealous anymore!
The jam stretched from Seri Setia way back into USJ! Poor people! I wonder what time they got home that day. For me, after the usual slight jams in Sunway and the turn off to Subang Parade, it was relatively pain-in-the-ass free.
Buying pomelo as part of the teambuilding event in Ipoh.
Here’s another picture of us Loaded Gunz.
My new lanyard… no more red color already.
Tron and I eating at Penang Village in Hartamas Shopping Center. That place is quite dead, isn’t it? We actually went there to look for Mr Pieman, but they have been replaced with Bread Story. Bread Story is filthy! Got flies landing on their pastries and they didn’t do anything!
We had otak-otak (quite nice)
Tron had the belacan fried rice (ok)
I had the Penang-style seafood noodle. Dunno what la. It was quite meh.
The match is on Tuesday night!
Tron got two free passes but I think his mom and his sister went.
Cool number, bro!
Final Farewell July 12, 2011
Picture heavy post… my very very very last day in XYZ Bank… (not like you can’t tell what bank it is from the pictures).
One of my favorite-st users everrrrrr… none other than Mr Soo from Treasury Control Processing. Any project done with him will be a joy because he knows what he wants and he can even give suggestions how to do it! Also, he’s very funny and nice and understanding user. The best.
I was lucky that he came over to Bangi the day before I left, so I could get a picture with him. And remind him how many meals he owes me already by now.
Never claimed once also. Fun fact : his brother was our national badminton player once upon a time. He played doubles. Should be easy for you to guess…
Mangosteens on my desk in the morning. How often does your boss put fresh fruits on YOUR table. Sigh…
Raymond said that my new make-up so glamourous. Well… I knew I would be taking lots of photos for the day mar…
I blogged about my make-up FOTD at my beauty blog.
Breakfast in the morning… this is kinda the cleanest my desk has ever been… but it’s gonna get even more sparse…
Last time imma work in these cubes…
Last time Imma work with these two… the last seven years were a blast, right? We’ve been through so much together. AS400 Cobol, Java, JSP, Visual Basic…
One last box to cart home. And that strange thing at the bottom is actually an ant trap that I generously donated to my office. The pest control really sucks!
First person I took photo with was Lim because he was working half day that day…
Photo with the calendar from year 2004… the first calendar I ever got from XYZ Bank! This is like, ancient history for me.
Last time Imma look at this monitor with all the funky stickers. Not like I can personalise my current laptop in the same manner.
My pedestal has never been cleaner…
Mr Ho.. who likes to tell Raymond that he’s very lucky that he (Raymond) gets to go out for lunch with a “leng lui” everyday (ah-hem, that’s me…)
Me with Barbara and R, two UAT testers who we frequently worked with. They came over to pass me a farewell present.
This whole team came downstairs to have a “tea date” with me… so touched. It’s Jonathan, Mandy, AiChee, Daniel & Sunny. So sad… where to get colleagues like this…

This was what they bought for the “tea date” — two boxes of J Co Donuts!
Pauline and I. Am so happy for her that she is now a manager…
Where’s my lunch treat?
Hema and myself… once upon a time she sat next to me…
Justin and I… dunno why he is so nice to me.. I only helped him out occasionally in JSP and Java stuff… and usually only cos Sifoo Wong asked me to cos I think Justin scared to ask me. Hahaha! Anyway, a really smart guy… and I’m glad that our offshore project is safe in his hands..
MY boss and I. I won’t lie… I teared up when I saw this picture… because all the memories came flooding back. All I can say is… I wish I was a better employee at times.

Me and the young men of the team (minus Lim who is married, therefore an old man) – William, NSL And Putera.

Me and Mr NXY… the AS400 expert..

Me and Umma…didn’t get to work with her much … no opportunity as she came in after Hema (when I was still doing AS400 Cobol occasionally).. and she wasn’t on the offshore project, so I didn’t need to teach her like Justin.

Wong and I… this coffee maker is a bane in Wong’s existence… cos I took it to work and left it there… for 3 years!! Hahahahha!!

Me and Raymond…. best work buddy…

CJ and myself… CJ is in charge of the server side stuff.. so I frequently have to torture him… but he likes it… hahahha.

I’ll miss the “Who’s on leave?” board…

I’ll miss my tag…

Crying while eating the carrot cake that Barbara and R bought for me… overwhelmed.
9 out of 8 April 27, 2010
So as mentioned again and again, I’ve always wanted to take part in one of those 10 km marathon thingys that are so ubiquitous now that it seems like there’s a marathon going on somewhere in Malaysia every fortnight.
It’s not that I think that I’m so healthy or so fit and active, it’s just a challenge that I want to issue to myself. Can I do it? So many others have jumped on the bandwagon, I’m just curious to see how I compare. I tried to get my colleagues and friends to take part, but they were completely uninterested… then I talked to my sister and bro-in law…
As the story goes (I wrote about it already), my sister and bro-in-law had just completed the Putrajaya Night Run and were very pleased with themselves for making it thru within the qualifying time. So they were influenced by their #1 marathon runner friend CCS to take part in the Bidor Half Marathon 2010. CCS and his running buddies (YY, Emmy, Shirleen, PuiSan) were going to run the 21km. The husband & wife team and myself would be taking part in the 10km. Maybe we are wimps (because if a full marathon is 42km, a half marathon is 21km… then a 10km marathon is barely a blip on the radar of a hardcore full marathon runner, duncha think?), but we believe in starting small before progressing upwards.
The cost of signing up is RM40, for that you get the tee-shirt, your running number & pins, a goodie bag (upon completion), food after the race, a lucky draw coupon and discount coupons for Brooks merchandise. For me, quite unlucky… lost my coupons and all that before the race, but at the end of the day, I could still run, just that I couldn’t take part in the lucky draw.
To be honest, I was VERY scared to run. Practice in the gym had shown that I can only run up to 25 minutes non-stop, and at the end of the 25 minutes, I had run something like 4.5km and I am “punctured” after that. Can’t go any further. And this was on “flat terrain” and in a nice air-conditioned environment!
Therefore, I was pretty well “equipped” for the race in other areas. Hehehe. I decided to take my Aasics out for this run instead of the Nike Run Frees (seriously, Nike has super bad rep amongst runners), I packed my super duper great running shorts that cost me RM129.90 (actually used for Body Attack all this while), packed good quality socks and sports bra, bought Accel Gel (which I didn’t use in the end because I don’t think you require it for a 10km run) and most importantly… a packet of Nitric Oxide that was a sample given to me when I bought my ON protein powder. =p
The marathon was on a Sunday morning, but we drove down to Bidor on Saturday morning to collect our numbers and shirts, before moving on for an eating spree (“Carbo Loading”) in Ipoh. At Bidor, we ate at the famous “Pun Chun” restaurant which serves herbal duck mee… superbly good at RM6 per bowl, and then went to the multipurpose hall to collect numbers. I was number J120 and when I was collecting my numbers, Kris told me that our CCS’s friends didn’t believe that this was my first marathon because, “Look at her legs… those are runners legs!” T___T Aiyooh, I’m super self-concious about my legs because I think they are hugeeeee but it’s so hot nowadays that it doesn’t make sense to wear jeans to hide my legs when it’s so comfy and nice to wear shorts and slippers, haha.
LC and her “runners legs”… lol.
Despite the scary and non-stop eating sounding “carbo loading”, we actually didn’t eat much. Herbal duck mee for brunch, followed by tao foo fah and soya cincau at “Funny Mountain” and cakes at Beacon Point. Went back to the hotel to check in and rest before following up with famous chicken rice and ais kacang with fruits. The gang were talking non-stop about “snow beer”, which I was super hesitant about drinking because I didn’t want to be drunk the next morning. In the end, only one of us drank that night – Kris – because he had to drink with his client in the hotel.
In the morning, *surprise surprise* I was the one who managed to wake up by 4:30am, take a nice morning shower, and then rouse the married couple up. Kris surprised (and angered, I think) LY by saying, “LeeYing, LeeYing, I don’t think I can run today lar…~”. I think LY scolded him up til he was fully awake, lol. I mixed half of the nitric oxide at about 5:30am, just before we were supposed to leave. Drank half of the drink and then found it absolutely disgusting and unpalatable… Threw the rest away. When I told Kris that, he was very excited (I told him what NO is supposed to do the night before) and said, “Oh you don’t want the rest? Can you give it to me!!!???” and so wound up Kris took the rest…
Other “can things go any more wrong?” was when I felt like peeing by the time we reached Bidor (approximately 40 min journey from Ipoh to Bidor), and we lined up at the multipurpose hall’s toilet to take a quick leak, but the line for the girls were soooooo long. I had one small cup of coffee and water + the NO drink inside me… but decided to “absorb it back into the blood stream” wtf. Cos the line was so long and flag off was starting soon… hahaha.
Before the gun was shot, it felt very very “chi kik”… a lot of excitement building up inside you. On my running playlist — Mika was already going on about how “we are golden… we are golden!!”. And the marathon began…!
Well, there were lots of “tips” that I was given for running a 10km marathon, and some of them are conflicting with each other. Lucky told me not to run for the first 1km or so because you will feel punctured really quickly. CCS and my sis told me that I definitely HAD to run from the beginning because that’s when everyone is being gung ho and you need the gung ho-ness of the entire group to carry you forward. Well, let me tell you what I learned from the run and what my results were. Quite drama wan.
I got 9th placing, with a timing of (officially) 1 hour and 2 minutes and something something seconds, but I personally think I took 1 hour and closer to 5 minutes. There were only 8 prizes being given out, so despite the “glory” of being top 10, there is no reward for getting 9th place. I didn’t wear a watch, which is why I don’t know my time. However, what happened was, as I was running towards the finishing line, a guy and a girl came from behind quite suddenly… the guy rammed into my left ankle which left me in quite a bit of pain for the rest of Sunday, the girl ran ahead and as I passed the finishing line, I saw her getting the token that said she got 8th placing. -____- WTF. I got a tag with the word “9 (Reserve)” there. Which means that I would get a prize if any of the top 8 gets disqualified, which is very unlikely. Cos who would want to cheat in a small town race like this.
Happy enough le…
I don’t say small town in a mocking way, but to be honest as this was one of those “nature trekking” kinda runs, up the hill and all that. Smell the earth (or earth trampled with cow pat in my sister’s words), see the greenery, get muddy, kinda thing. I really quite enjoyed myself. I’m not pissed at the girl who got 8th place, after all, she wasn’t the one who rammed into me, but her friend. Also, I was quite stupid because I was running towards the finishing line like a slowpoke. I was not sprinting. Reason being, I had no idea how fast (or slowly) I was going, and I already thought I was quite behind, so I didn’t expect I would get any placing, what more top 10, haha. If I did, I would’ve mustered all my energy to zoom to the end. After all, I did not feel THAT tired at the end. If there was another 1.5 – 2 km to go, I think I would’ve still been able to run. =p There was NO PAIN involved at all, until the guy hit me.
Which is why I’m pissed at myself for not sprinting, and I’m pissed at the guy for ramming me because if it was indeed sabotage, you could’ve definitely run past me and I would not be able to give chase because I wasn’t even thinking it was a race! If he had just leisurely zoomed pass me, I would’ve just been sor sor dei jogging to the finishing line as I did. So why injure me in your pursuit. -___- And no, it was not like there was a bunch of us nearing the finishing line and he had accidentally hit me. There was no one else and the finishing line space is damn big. So I think he was being quite a bastard. -____-
But you know what, I don’t mind not getting a prize… it’s after all just a fun outing for me. I don’t think my timing is good or anything like that, I just felt happy that I managed to run as how I planned to run and I enjoyed myself. =) Everyone else in the group felt happy and impressed by me that I managed to even get a placing, but I think I’m lucky in the sense that.. there were only 93 people in my category (women’s open 10km) and not many people would travel to another state just to run, so there is less intense competition. (But don’t play play, the 21km category is highly competitive for this marathon, with more participants for the half-marathon than the 10km… and the winner for the women’s veteran completed the 10km marathon much faster than the winner for the women’s open!) It is a very “welcoming” introduction to the world of marathon running for me indeed.
So about the route, and my personal thoughts about it and what I learned, etc… The route, as mentioned, is a “nature” kind of trail, where you go up a hill… haha. You run out from Bidor town and after a few hundred meters, you get to a turnoff up the hilly track. For MOST of the way, it’s a flat terrain, but during the first 5km, you will encounter about 2 rather tough hilly areas and only about one lovely downhill run. At the top, you will reach a village, which, although is also flat terrain, is not very nice to run at because the tar road is badly done, so it’s easy for you to fall down. However, once you come out from the village, you know that there’s another 5km before you reach back to the town area. There are two nice downhill stretches for you to run, and it goes for quite a bit, so you can gain a lot of ground there, and then there’s only one steep hill climb after that.
From the flag off, I decided to follow CCS’s school of thought to jog and go with the flow of runners as CCS has been running marathons for at nearly 10 years (if not more). With Mika in my ears, I started with a slow and steady jog… maybe just going at 7kph? Hahaha. I ran for about 4km without stopping! Was very impressed with myself… hahaha. And the only reason why I “stopped” was because I had reached the first hilly climb and I didn’t have the confidence to do a light jog up the hill and not be “pancit” after that. I did my power walk up the hill, already starting to feel a bit of burn in the calves and thighs, but kept going. From personal experience, I can say that music definitely helps when doing a 10km marathon. I cannot imagine how I would be if I didn’t have my ipod with me. At one point, the ipod actually hung on me and I had to do a hard reset… during those few moments of silence, I felt so bored! The only regret I felt with the ipod was that I didn’t have a super cool pouch to put it in (most runners have a pouch that they strap on to their arm. I had to use my trusty fish pouch… which you will see how “glam” it is after this).
Also, that when one of my favorite tracks to run to – Number 1 – came on, I was actually climbing the hill. So it was a bit out of sync there, but these are things I couldn’t foresee.
During my power walk up the hill, I did see a lot of people running up the hill… and I wondered if I had made the wrong decision to power walk up instead as they were all cutting me. However, when I had reached the flat terrain and pushed myself to start running again, I saw that those who had jogged up were unable to jog anymore, and I easily cut them again. So it was a good decision made after all. Continued to enjoy the marathon… loved observing the people, and kept wondering if I would come across my 21km friends on the opposite side, or catch up with my fellow 10km friends (although to be honest, I had already cut my sister and Kris like, after the first 300m and doubtful they would cut me back without saying hi. There was only one guy who I know — Kris’s ex-landlord — who was ahead of me that I knew personally, and this other girl who is PuiSan’s friend who I just met the night before).
By the way, I was jogging with a 3/4 full bladder.. haha, so despite having two water stations going up and two water stations coming down, I only drank twice… really didn’t need the water.
Later, when Eddy (Kris’s ex-landlord) saw me with my fish pouch, he said, “Wah.. how can you tahan running with that thing bouncing around? Or is it the upper body part bouncing around so you have to wear something to balance it off.” -____- Actually, I would just like to say that the fish pouch bouncing around did not bother me as much as the water inside my bladder bouncing around wtf wtf. Raymond says that it’s lucky that I did not wind up like this guy :

With the “motivation style” poster saying “DETERMINATION —- SOMETIMES IT IS JUST NOT WORTH IT”. Hahaha!!
Okay, back to the story. So for me, just by jogging jogging jogging along, going with the flow of the crowd, it was an easy first 4km for me. I suppose there needs to be a certain ounce of “kiasu-ism” in you to keep pressing on. I am actually super annoyed by young high school kids… they like to run in a line across the road, and then when you want to cut them (without being rude), you have to make a big cut from the left /right side, which wastes energy. Eddy actually said the reason why he ran off like a gazelle right after flag off was because he said if you stay in front of the pack from the start, you generally cut less people and save your energy. So maybe this is a tip that you would find useful.. =) Anyway, there was this bunch of kids who would keep on cutting me only to be slow in front of me and I would have to waste time cutting them again. And it was harder for me to cut them than vice versa because they would stop in a ROW in front of me. So for the last and final time that I cut them, I grunted “HMPH!!!!” damn loudly and sprinted for a bit after that. Didn’t see them after. Hahaha! =p
Once I reached the top of the hill and ran through the village, I managed to get the ribbon to signify that I had completed the run and would be used as proof to get the goodie bag or to get your medal. I asked the lady giving out the ribbons how many more km to go (there are just not enough markers along the way!) and she said, “How many more ah…. you are halfway there lah.” Lol. So knowing that there’s another 5km only, and since I was “halfway” there but did not feel tired, I felt like it was sooooo doable to run the rest of the way. Was totally reenergised!
It also helped that directly after the 5km marker, there was a very nice and easy flat terrain to run on, followed by the awesome downhill run. Earlier when I was climbing the slope, I would look on in envy as the hardcore runners raced down, their shoes slapping happily against the gravel — piak piak piak. So this was my chance, and I started with a comfortable jog that gradually picked up speed. This was probably where I really started making use of my training to run at 12kph in the gym, haha. I passed by Kris who was jogging placidly along, gave him the thumbs up sign and a nod, felt reenergised again! Then, because I felt that the gap between me and Kris was not wide enough, I started running even faster. Hahahha. Further on down, I met my sister, who was walking up the slope. Clapped my hands to motivate her (something I learned from some old guys around me, lol) and then to motivate her, shouted, “A bit more, masuk kampung, keluar kampung then come down!” According to my sister, this “Masuk kampung, keluar kampung” became a chant for the people who were behind me. Lol…
I think I ran quite fast down the slopes and along the flat terrains… it helped that there were some motivating songs on my ipod, and that it was just a plain easier run than the first 5km. I think I ran for the next 2.5km quite well. I was happy, I was smiling at runners on the opposite side, and yes.. I have to admit… I was being competitive and hoping to widen the gap between myself and my friends, haha. Finally, I reached the high slope for the second half, and I was REALLY dying, so I started to do my power walk again, but entertained myself by pretending I had two walking sticks in each hand and walking like a robot up the hill wtf. Then, there’s this super old man, tanned like a nut and wearing a Pagoda singlet to run who came up next to me and said “C’mon c’mon girl! Don’t stop don’t stop… just a slow jog, just don’t stop!” With a shout, I started the slow jog, no matter how hard it was. And like that, I ended up half-jogging and half-power walking up the slope. =___=”
After that, I started recognising landmarks from the first few km going up the hill, so I knew I was smelling the finishing line. Haha. Actually, there was another 2km more to go, but you start to feel excited, and I REFUSED to let myself stop the slow jog that I was going at. Even though I felt like giving up, I told myself, if you want to rest, go rest at the finishing line, don’t go and rest at the side of the road. Surprisingly, actually my feet, thighs, etc, all did not feel any pain. This is what a good pair of shoes will do for you.
With that, I then reached the end, and as I said, the guy then crashed into me like 100m before the finishing line, the other girl got 8th place and that was how I sustained the only injury I got from the 10km marathon. -___-
But yes, I’m still proud of my performance… though 1hour 2 minutes is not anything to brag about, but I learned a lot from my 1st marathon. Things like :
a. the importance of good attire, good shoes, even good socks! if they’re good, they are things you will NOT think about during the 10km run and will be things you take for granted. If they suck, they’ll be preying on your mind, stuff like how your clothes are chaffing you, the pain in your toes, how uncomfortable your socks feel as they roll down your ankle…
b. motivate others to feel motivated! Other runners do appreciate small gestures like shouts of encouragement, smiles, nods, claps, cheers, etc. You too will feel encouraged when you tell others, “Just a bit more!!”
c. always get a good playlist ready so you don’t waste time skipping songs. Actually, I didn’t really have that good a playlist, I will trim some of the stuff off later. This was my playlist during the run :
Mika – We Are Golden (quite a good song to start the marathon with, but not something good for the middle)
2NE1 – Fire (excellent song to run to, I will retain this)
All-American Rejects – Gives You Hell (not such a good song to run to because it begins quite slowly… I suppose it’s good to keep you going at 6kph if you want to plod along, but not good at the start of a running playlist…)
Aly & AJ – The Potential Break-Up Song (really good running song!)
Andrew Spencer & The Vamprockerz – Zombie (this is a Body Attack Power Track song and it is probably the BEST running song for me that day!)
Avril Lavigne & Lil Mama – Girlfriend Remix (not such a good song for running, unless you want to plod along at 6kph…)
Beat Bandits From Outer Space – Number One (this is a Body Attack Running Track and it was another awesome running track for me that day..!)
Bhuvan Brothers – Rock It (thumpingly good running track, was pleasantly surprised at how good it was at motivating me. It’s a Body Attack plyometrics track, which I didn’t even really like as a BA song, so that’s why I was surprised at how good it was at pushing me. I think generally any BA song got me moving as the kind of pushing to keep going is the same kinda feeling that I put myself through during a BA class, so the “feel” is about the same… )
Wild Wild West 08, Fly on The Wall, Womanizer – all from Body Attack 66, the running, cardio and mixed intervals track respectively. The first two were good for running, but by Womanizer, I was zoning out and not really paying attention anymore, hahaha. I was VERY tempted to skip that track, TBH. Don’t know why it’s there, gonna remove it. Hahaha.
Enrique Iglesias ft Ciara – Taking Back My Love (not good running track at all! Was starting to wonder what drugs I was on when I was making my running playlist)
Fedde Le Grand ft Mitch Crown – Scared of Me (great running track, for some reason or other!)
G-Dragon – Heartbreaker (Awesome running track!)
Brown Eyed Girls – Abracadabra (not so good, but it’s got a good beat. By this point, I was running quite slowly, I just needed something catchy to take my mind off the fact that I was feeling quite tired and wanting to pee wtf)
Estelle ft Kanye West – American Boy (again, a surprisingly good running track, loved it. I really like this song regardless, it’s a good listen!)
I reached the finishing line just as Girls Aloud’s Something Kinda Ooh started playing, which is a pity. I think Girls Aloud have some freaking good tunes to run to. Too bad I didn’t take Cheryl Cole and company’s words of “I’ve got to heat it, got to got to heat it up!” and sprint towards the end!
d. Which brings me to the 4th point, which is SPRINT TOWARDS THE END, ALWAYS. If you don’t collapse at the finishing line, it’s a marathon that you didn’t try hard enough at!!
e. If you don’t think you can, don’t run up the hilly parts. Not even a slow jog, because it’s less taxing on your legs to do a fast power walk than to do a slow jog.
f. Run fast when you can, like downhill, to cover the distance faster. I have a funny story to tell about this. A lot of times, people run hella fast downhill, and then they get punctured like, til they have to walk SLOOOOOWWWLLLYY when they reach flat terrain. What I do is I run fast downhill, but not to the point that I’m leaping in the air like a gazelle. I don’t think badly of those who do so (unlike some others, like in the upcoming story), but it’s just my preference to keep steady. My sister likes to run fast during the downhill bits because she knows she can only run for say, another 1km more. So she’s willing to expend the rest of her energy running fast for that 1km because she knows no matter what, she can’t run more than the 1km. So why not run downhill because you cover more distance that way? That’s one school of thought lah. But a lot of other people, e.g CCS and my friend Lucky, they say they will LAUGH if they see people doing that, because they know they will see the person walking slowly up ahead, when they casually jog past.
For my sister, she was very pissed last Sunday because she said that after walking for a bit after her dashing downhill speeding, two guys jogged past her and one nudged his friend and said out loud, “Neh, neh, I told you that she would stop running after that what…” and then they laughed as they walked off. LOL. Damn bad lah! If you think like that, don’t have to say out loud lar…
For me — to each his own lah. There are some people who you see running really fast downhill, but doesn’t mean they will stop up ahead. There are those like me, who do run fast downhill, but don’t stop and also don’t go fast after that… it’s different school of thought, that’s what I think. =p When I was running downhill, one fit looking Malay guy said to me, “Wah, cepatnya!!” (“Wow, how fast!”) and I said, “Bila turun bukit, boleh lari cepat sikit la.. bila naik bukit, lambat semula!” (“When going downhill, can run a bit faster. When going uphill, slow again!”). He laughed… but during flat terrain, I saw he looked a bit impressed that I didn’t totally stop, but continued jogging, haha. =p
g. WEAR A WATCH! Everyone in the gang wore a watch except for me… it’s absolutely essential to know just how much more to push yourself, and to keep track. I regret it, really! If I didn’t get a placing, I would’ve had no idea how fast I went. So stupid!
Well, that’s all I have to say about my first marathon. When I got home, Star newspaper featured an article on the 3rd page saying something like “Malaysians Not Made For Running”, which was an absolutely zha dou moment for me when I got home, hahaha. I’m paying for my running now… haven’t been able to go to the gym the past two days because my legs are aching like mad! Unable to walk up and down stairs properly, just like after my crossfit training at BXFC, haha. Sigh… I will probably be ok by Thursday.
Do you think I should join another marathon? I aim to try and run faster than 1 hour next time… better songs on my playlist, not run with a semi-full bladder and I will scout out the route properly next time, lol. There is the Centro Klang Run coming next, as well as the Setia Eco Run…
