Nursing The Heartbroken With Vodka June 13, 2011

Last weekend was really interesting. Well, I’ve not been using group purchased coupons for a really long time for a reason — I’ve no time to! In fact, one of my coupons expired and there was nothing I could do about it as no one was going to the area and it was too far for me to drop by, just for an RM5 coupon. Sigh… it was a really good deal though – RM1 for a cupcake from Bisou. I bought 5 coupons! =p Luckily I didn’t buy more, otherwise the loss would’ve been bigger too.

I wrote about this on my “other blog”, so I’ll just link here. The summary of it is just that on Friday, I had to go for cell group meeting, so I gave my parents the two tickets to Magical Musicals that I won from AMBP. You can read about what happens next, but generally they had a good time, and so did I. Why was the cell group important enough for me to “give away” my tickets? Cos it’s my first cell group session since joining RLC, so I didn’t want to miss it! Plus, it turned out to be an awesome sharing session and I ended up so motivated, energised and inspired by my cell group leader. Lots of positivity and confidence-boosting. I am so glad that I did not miss it. =) Sadly, the next cell group will be weeks and weeks away.

Meanwhile, though I’m dying at work, I’m looking to fit in the following in the next 2 weeks :
a. gymming marathons and lots of swimming in the future! I want to lose 4kg and regain my stamina in leaps and bounds! (I nearly died during Body Combat today… they were doing the new release and there were sooooo many lower body movements! Usually I’ll ace it but.. heck! It was murder on the gym floor, baby! Will blog more about it in another entry!)

b. shopping for new clothes. A lot of my “work wear” is in fact very kiddish.

c. shopping for new shoes. I was thinking of foregoing heels forever, but then I decided that what I should be looking out for are comfortable heels, which a certain brand promises to deliver. Will see about that!

d. cooking! I haven’t been cooking and baking since early this year and that’s about to change!

e. spring cleaning – I plan to sell some of my stuff on Lowyat, but before I do that, I need to actually FIND the stuff I plan to sell. Hahaha!

f. going for a holiday in Singapore! I’m praying so hard for this to materialise!

Ah… those are but some idyllic fancies. ;)

After the awesome sharing session on Friday, Tron told me he wanted to sleep in, so I joyfully took to the bed too… only to have him call me up at 10:30am asking me why I wasn’t awake yet. -___-” He is truly a morning eagle while I am a night owl. I had no idea that “sleeping in” was only until 10am. If someone gave me the choice to “sleep in”, expect me up only at lunchtime. Our Saturday was truly lazy – Burger King (why is my Mushroom Swiss so tiny?) and then I was lured by promises of movies to watch, but ended up playing Playstation games with him. -____-”

Fighting games nowadays are so complicated… Last time you only had one fighter in your arsenal and it was a dual to death. Now you have 3 fighters in your arsenal and you have to keep switching between the fighters… so complicated. And of course I didn’t know how to switch la! So unfair… the bullier didn’t teach me until the second round.

Honestly, I don’t even know WHAT game I was playing… just some Street Fighter-style game.

At night, I accompanied my friend Dull who wanted to have heart-to-heart chats. Was expecting pizza, alcohol, DVDs and tears, but wound up having no tears and no opportunity for tears to arise either. The pizza was there, but we had to collect it ourselves from the traffic-jam-hell-hole of SS12. The waiting line was so long that I ended up eating some maggi goreng at Taj while waiting for the pizza.

As for DVDs, we were actually watching online streamed movies… and Dull’s computer speakers were f@cked, so we were straining to hear the dialogue. We watched bits of Saw VI (disgusting, I kept my eyes closed most of the time), bits of Scott Pilgrim vs The World (nice graphics, but I didn’t find it THAT funny), bits of Beastly (Dull said that Alex Pettyfer did not become a beast, but still damn hot and handsome and she still wants him WTF. But I agree he is not a BEAST la, he’s just heavily tattooed and pierced. And Mary-Kate Olsen is NOT scary at all in the movie and he did NOT humiliate her enough. It’s sooooooo mild la.. it’s all so mild!) and the whole of 18 year-old Virgin, only because it’s the one that streamed the fastest.

18 Year Old Virgin is actually soft porn IMHO… so much nudity and the first 5 minutes starts with sexual fantasies and masturbation. O_O I really did think we were watching porn at first! Anyway, the movie is about a girl who wants to lose her virginity at a graduation night party for the seniors at high school. The movie is NOT a parody of 40 Year Old Virgin starring Steve Carell.

In case you’re wondering why she wants to lose her virginity and why she would have trouble doing so, it’s because she believes that this one guy called Ryan Lambert is her dream guy (you’ll find out why she thinks so), and when she offered herself to him, he said that he won’t sleep with virgins because they are emotionally messy. Hahaha! Anyway, so she planned to lose it quickly, and then sleep with Ryan and have him fall in love with her foreverly forever.

It’s damn dumb la, and a lot of dumb things happen, but since we were also “brain numbed” by Absolut Peach and Sprite, we somehow made it thru the show, amidst shouts of “Oh crap, she is so damn dumb!” and “Can she stop being so darn desperate ar!!”

Thought of sleeping over, but I drove back at 2:30am because have church the next day. ^^ Tron now prefers going for the 1st service, so we have to leave Subang quiteeee early. I’m not an early eagle and I think this is why I have trouble waking up on the weekends. Last time, the weekends were for me to catch up on sleep debt!

We didn’t do much on Sunday because we had a wedding to attend at night, so we wanted to nap in the afternoon instead. Hahahaha. The wedding was held at Hyatt Saujana Subang (where my sister had her wedding), and it was the wedding of Tron’s close friend’s brother. Needless to say that I did not know the bride or the groom. But I was very blessed to be able to attend because it was SUCH a grand occassion!

The whole wedding had a cute theme revolving around how the couple travelled together a LOT during their 7 years relationship. Their wedding favors were postcards of countries they have visited, and upon registering, each guest were given a “boarding pass” telling them which table they would be seated.

I was quite sulky when Tron insisted on picking me up so early because I had justttt gotten ready, and usually I like to snack before the wedding because knowing how chinese weddings are — they AREN’T going to start on time. You’re gonna be lucky if it’s only an hour late. Tron said it was tough luck that I didn’t wake up earlier to snack (hmph!) and went on our merry way.

THANKFULLY the wedding had an awesome reception. I remember that Saujana provided the sengkuang / carrot / cucumber / celery sticks and dip for my sister’s reception, but this one had so many other awesome stuff. Potato chips, peanuts, hors d’ouvre. chocolate & butter cake covered by fondant (the chocolate cake is absolute sinful) and lots of drinks, from beer & wine to fruit juices or soft drinks. There was also a string quartet playing… in fact, I was quite reluctant for the wedding to start because I was having so much fun at the reception. =p

The wedding itself, was of course, much grander. We were all bleeding with envy though, because apparently each table was named after a country that the couple had visited. Does that mean they had travelled to 30+ countries? Other than the food, we were also entertained by a live band (Rocaro), the couple performing their “first dance” together (and later, some of the older couples also took to the dancefloor gracefully) and there was even a bian mian performance and Michael Jackson impersonator! This was starting to look like my Tan Sri’s own birthday dinner! It was that grand!

Also had a lot of fun because the people seated at our table were crazy and kept cracking odd jokes. Hahaha. The kind of guests whom if you are the groom, you don’t know whether to be happy that they are there breaking the ice, or to have them hauled out of the ballroom for disturbing the solemnity of the occasion. ;) Still, had fun and glad to meet those people that night. I pity the grandma and the maid sitting with us though… the grandma must’ve been itching to ask the guys to shaddap. =p

This apparently random picture is of Sri (Tron’s friend) who is one of the best man (I think) walking in with the bridesmaid. Then Francis said that the girl looks damn unhappy to be with Sri… wonder what he did to her? Hahahaha… :P

This is the lovely bride & groom… congratulations and may your marriage will be as wonderful as the wedding itself. :)

A Wedding Weekend May 11, 2011

Whoa… this weekend was all about F&WS’s wedding and er… pies! So tired and groggy right now because I drank like… two glasses of red wine yesterday. :) I’m not so good at holding my drink now. :p

On Friday, worked quite late… I haven’t gone to the gym in ages ady. *sigh* Telling myself that this is only til June, whereby I can take a break again. Don’t get me wrong — I don’t mind working late. But maybe 3 times a week or something like that. Even better if I can work from home. But since that is not feasible, let’s not think about it. Basically, worked late and was a bit grumpy when I met Tron directly after work. -___- Then he instantly cheered me up when I saw that he got me the Longchamp Le Pliage “Shopping” bag. :P I’ve never been a bag person (or shoe person. Or gadget person. Or whatever…), but this bag, I like. :P It’s simple and understated, but so classy. Somehow or other, after having this bag, I notice that a lot of people are using Longchamp too! But most are fakes. >=p Yes, I’ve also become one of those people who study how to tell the difference between the real and the fake version. >=p

Ok enough bragging! :p We didn’t really get to spend a lot of time on Friday as we had an early day on Saturday — F&WS’s church wedding. To be honest… before this I have only attended one other church wedding EVER. Which was my youngest uncle’s wedding, haha. I didn’t really know it is important to the couple getting married as I thought you can equate it to like the chip san leong ceremony or something like that. So bad, I know…

The church wedding was a sweet affair… erm… nothing extraordinary happened, but pastor did give a meaningful speech based on how Jesus’s first miracle is a miracle performed at a wedding. I was a bit kekok cos everyone there knows the couple for years and years, but I just got to know them about a month ago. And not even very well at that. :p After the couple had been united, we had a short lunch (buffet style) at the Dream Cafe…. then went home to watch movies while Tron did his chores. =p I got to watch Knight & Day, Confessions of a Shopaholic and part of Black Swan (like the first 15 minutes?) before he had finished his chores and wanted to have dinner before driving back to SJ.

Knight & Day – from the trailer, I really wanted to watch this movie because it shows a funny side of Tom Cruise. But the movie itself is so weird. It’s like Tom Cruise’s character was stalking Cameron Diaz, and then vice versa towards the end. And I don’t like Cameron Diaz’s character… so hao lian and so presumptuous at the end. Blehk. I donno, but towards the end of the movie, didn’t it seem like she was so in love with him but he was kind of just, “Oh… got girl like me ah? Ok lo… ambik saja”?! And please lah… the bad guys were just so… pathetic. Especially at the part where Diaz’s character jumped out too early and she got fired at … MULTIPLE times and they still MISSED.EVERY.SHOT. Pathetic or what? Maybe you can say that she wasn’t the main target, so that’s why they missed. But since when bad guys got conscience some more wan?

Confessions of a Shopaholic – I read only the first 30 pages of the book, so I had to Wikipedia to find out the differences between the novel and the movie. The book REALLY irked me because she was so ridiculously flippant about her debts, and people like that just piss me off. Like, wanting to front some branded goods but can’t really afford it in reality. What’s the point? Then, I read an (erroneous, I guess) review of the book from some blogger who said that “the rich guy bails her out in the end” so I was quite FFFFUUUU about it. What kinda novel would tell us that it’s ok to be up to your eyeballs in debt, as long as you make sure you’re pretty enough to snare a trust fund baby in the end.

In the end, the book is not really like that, and the movie is not like that at all. They had the very pretty Isla Fisher playing the role of Becky Bloomwood, so I guess it makes her seem more likable? And although she was in debt, the movie didn’t really show her still shopping like a mad woman. The only thing that she really did buy and showed her “evil shopaholic side” was the expensive dress when she was going to appear on a TV show. And lets face it, if you were gonna appear on a morning TV show, wouldn’t you splurge a little to look nicer? The movie mainly showed how she went about escaping Derek Smeadth, haha.

I kind of pitied Derek at the end. At the end of the day, he was just trying to do his job. Sure, he was a little cruel when he appeared on the TV show, but wasn’t she cruel to have lied to him and continuously run away from him instead of meeting up with him and working out some kind of payment plan? Totally irresponsible, and then piling him with the cash in pennies & quarters at the end of the movie kinda showed that she was pretty classless, IMHO. Like totally didn’t even think she was wrong to have lied and hid from him in the first place!

I wouldn’t watch this movie again… basically just watched it to see what it was all about. Even the male actor wasn’t much of any eye candy, and the Alicia “long legs” wasn’t even very hot also… looks like a tranny.

Black Swan – only watched a bit (as mentioned) but I’m so psyched to watch the rest of the movie! Natalie Portmon looks so incredibly beautiful and intense here… really curious to see what this Oscar-winning movie is all about. (Usually I don’t bother because the movies are too deep for a simple person like myself. :p)

Used my Bulldog Milkadeal coupon with Tron. For RM35, we get 1 soup, any main and 1 ice-lemon tea. I know that this sounds pretty expensive (I’m sure that there are regular places that serve you this for RM35), but the difference is that the food in Bulldog is really good, and they come in ginourmous sizes! I was pretty confident about this coupon because when I saw Bulldog was having a group purchasing deal, I immediately sms-ed to ask Tron how much he usually paid for his Bulldog dinners (yes, he often eats here anyway!). He said about RM50 per person, and that’s just for his meal alone!

Tron was very happy with this group purchasing deal, haha. Usually he always complains the place is :
~ far
~ strange food / food he doesn’t want to eat
~ nobody at all in the restaurant
~ he won’t go back again

I always tell him that the experience was worthwhile… wasn’t it? And he would grudgingly say ok, just once is enough. =( But for this coupon, he asked me whether I bought more than 2 coupons or not. So you can tell that this place is pretty good lah.

This was what we had :

My carrot & coriander soup was a most welcome difference from the cream of mushroom soups that most places serve us. Yummy and nutritious, it tasted great with the lightly toasted white bread that came with the starter. Meanwhile, Tron had the roasted pumpkin soup that he devoured in a jiffy, so I can’t tell you how it tasted, but that it was probably awesome for him to have wolved it all down without offering me some. =p

Right after the soups were served, our mains came after. Basically, it took a while for the food to arrive, but when they did, they came in quick succession. =) I had the beef & Guinness pie, while Tron had the Ultimate Burger. The burger was hugeee! The pie was VERY good, but be careful to go easy on the sauce, because the filling inside the pie is already quite salty. If you just DRENCH your meal with the gravy, it’s just going to be OTT.

Ultimate Burger

Guinness Beef Pie

After surgery on it… ;P

Although we went for a really early dinner (think : 5:30pm!), the place had quite a number of patrons, both dining and also those who were having afternoon beers. To Tron, it’s very different from the eerie emptiness of the previous places that we have visited. I’ll definitely be coming back here, either with Tron or to introduce this place to Dull & Fuzz, who love nooks like this as well.

All in all, a wonderful group purchase experience for this week. =) And yes, I got my PIE finally! Hehehe. In fact, I overdose on pies this week! Cos after church on Sunday, Tron wanted to treat me to a place that he had read good reviews of online. I was quite skeptical because my bf is not the type of person who goes around reading food bloggers (floggers?). In the end, he took me to Mojo in SS2…

I thought the food there was pretty good. Well, I loved the homebaked chicken and mushroom pie, though I much prefer the one in Bulldog. Then again, can’t compare because the Bulldog one is 3x more expensive. I just prefer full pies than pies in ramkins that are covered with some puff pastry. The place has VERY good business, and right now they are having a buy 1 free 1 drinks promotion. Get it while it lasts. :) Even if you don’t like the food (Tron didn’t like his mutton pilaf rice), get the pie like I did and enjoy the cute zaman 50-an setting. ;p

Actually, we spent a bit too much time roaming around SS2 that we nearly forgot that we had a wedding to attend that night! F&WS’s chinese wedding dinner thingy.. heheh. Had to rush back… do some random chores, and then head out to Shah Alam in the evening. Quite rushed, but in the end, it didn’t start on time also (normal lah). The bride was very busy… mingling with the guests during the cocktail reception. As I told Steph, “Last time my sister hide in the room until it was her showtime, hahaha”.

Oh gosh! We forgot to take our souvenir with us! *feels bad* Expensive personalised one some more…

Stage area has photo of bride & groom.. not just the names like most weddings.

Jack uploaded this photo… I look terrible here, but Steph, Flo the bride and Angeline look good here!

The wedding ceremony proceeded without any hitches, and the bride had 3 fabulous gown changes. Haha, sorry-lah, but for any girl, what I check out is always what the bride wears. =p The photo montages were interesting – this couple did a LOT of photoshoots! However, the most memorable part of the evening was when the father of the bride gave his speech! He was so funny! Though I can’t quote him word by word, this was the gist of what he said :

FOTB : “…when asked if F will say yes if WS proposes, I said… of course she will say yes… because F is desperate.”
[cue the audience going "OOOOHhhhHHHHhhh" (in the Oh snap! kind of way)
FOTB : "... remind her that age is catching up."
[audience is horrified and laughing at the same time]
FOTB : “her brother James asked… when is jie jie coming back home? To clean out her wardrobe so that I can put my stuff in there.”
FOTB : “…but when it came to the time when the pastor asked, ‘Who gives the bride away?’ and I’m supposed to say, ‘I give’, I was just blur there. When the pastor extended out his hand for me to put F’s hand there, I shook his hand instead. Sorry ah pastor, though we had so many times practice already. :P
[everyone laughs]

It was seriously quite touching towards the end, and I think F is a great sport because she didn’t even look horrified when her dad made all the earlier statements. :) Can see that they have a super close relationship. What I found funny was that Steph was crying over this, but I remember her trying so hard not to cry during her own wedding! Your own wedding more kam dong wan right!

During the wedding, I also found out something-I-was-not-suppose-to-know-but-in-the-end-actually-ok-if-I-know. Lol! It’s nothing bad, in fact it’s something super worth celebrating about and I’m so happy and excited when this item comes to pass. =) Hehehe… anyway, congratulations to F & WS again… a 5 year relationship wo.. so sweet. =)

Lastly, happy mother’s day… I bought my mom this for mother’s day :

Finally found the rose perfume in Crabtree & Evelyn that she likes! Thank you Tron for lending me your discount card… and I had a fun experience shopping at the C&E outlet in Empire. The salesgirls there are so helpful and evil-ly tempting me to spend more so that I can get the C&E free gifts! Every now and then, C&E will have tiered pricing free gifts. Like, spend RM300, you get free gifts worth RM50. But if you spent RM380, you get free gifts worth RM100. Stuff like that. I was soooo tempted to spend more because my mom’s gift already quite pricy. For just a little over RM50, I could get free gift! But it was just shower gels and stuff… nice smelling indulgences that I don’t really need. But the salesgirls kept trying to convince me otherwise. Then they said that if I spent another RM150+ more, I could get an even bigger free gift, which included this floral bag. I was like, “Oohh…. floral bag…” and this Tron kept having to “put lang sui” (pour cold water) over all of us by saying, “Aiyo! That bag is damn ugly la! Why you want?”
“Only aunties carry those kind of bags la!”
“Aiyo! Bring to pasar kind of bag la!”

The salesgirls kept having some friendly banter with him over all his insults, hahaha. But seriously, maybe next time. I think I was being hypnotised, looking back, the bag really ain’t that great. So thank you Tron! XD

Oh yeah, and my friend Steph keeps saying that people mistake her and Jack for still being boyfriend and girlfriend (probably she looks too young to be married?), but at church, a few people (strangers!) wished me Happy Mother’s Day lor!! OMG!!! Why would you wish someone that, especially since I didn’t have a so ha chai in tow?!?! T____T

Conclusion : really need to gym moreeeeee…

Bahau Men January 20, 2011

After last weekend, I’m really tempted to have a “cuti-cuti Malaysia” trip at least once a month! What happened was, a bunch of us (Justin, WanAi, Pauline and myself) drove down to Bahau for WanLi & Trider’s wedding. They are highschool sweethearts, been together for more than a decade! I really admire couples who are practically married to each other before they are even married. So touching! ;)

In case you’re wondering where Bahau is, it’s in Negri Sembilan! We thought of making it one of our “legendary” makan-makan trips, and Pauline even dangled hopes of big prawns & cendol to Justin, so we spent a night there instead of driving back to KL on the same night. Bahau is about an hour away from Bangi, and another hour or so away from Seremban, so despite definitely having lots of makan-makan available in Seremban, it didn’t make sense to drive an hour there and then another hour back to KL. We decided to just nose around Bahau and see what they have available there. :)

WanLi booked us in a hotel called Kiara Inn, which was not where she had her wedding (about 5 minutes drive away only) because she said Kiara Inn was nearer to food stores & had a shopping mall nearby. We were psyched!

Even our journey down to Bahau was eventful. I was the earliest as I had lunch together with Tron before leaving. He was not feeling well, so I sent him back early, leaving a window of time open that was too early to leave to meet my friends, but not enough time to go shopping around. So I decided to meet my friends earlier, and since the meeting place was the office, decided to go in to the office to do work. When I arrived at the office, the tagging in thing couldn’t work, so they had to send repairmen to open up the door… very drama and so fan lah! If there’s any reason to NOT work on the weekends, well, that incident gave me more than 1 reason.

I was also nursing a lack-of-caffein headache, so once Justin arrived and we were all bundled into his car, I promptly fell asleep. Thought it was going to be an hour drive, but after 45 minutes of sleep, they told me that we still had another 45 minutes to go! Apparently they got lost and had been driving around aimlessly for a while. Hahaha. Only after Justin got lost did the GPS get switched on (earlier, Pauline thought it was going to be a straightforward journey, so didn’t need to switch on the GPS). The GPS somehow guided us into a kampong area at one point, where Justin nearly hit :

a. a calf

b. a sheep

c. a chicken

Pauline will say that I’m exaggerating, but as she was not in the passenger seat, she doesn’t know how drama it is ok!!

Ooh, and my friend WanAi just came back from Germany (thank you for the choccie) and she taught me some phrases in German. FYI, I’ve been stagnating in the Spanish department, but let me see what I remember :

~ “Ich Leech. Ich liebe chocolatier” (I’m Leech. I love chocolate)

~ “Hello. Weigeitz?” (Hello, how are you?)

~ “Gut. Danke.” (Good, thank you)

Hehehe. For Spanish, I learned:

~ “Que hace?” (What do you do?)

~ “Soy programmera. Trabaja en el banc” ( I’m programmer. Work in bank.)

~ “Pues…. un poco… ” (Well… a little)

That’s all!

Back to the main story, we finally reached the destination in one piece, and met up with SuiYu and See, who had arrived 2 hours before us. There, they dashed our hopes of having a makan-makan trip by telling us that they have already been around the area in Kiara Inn and there was nothing to eat except :

~ Mary Brown chicken

~ braised zhu zhap (Pig spare parts)

~ yau char kwai, ham chim peng, etc… which they had bought an entire bag of!

Well, we were slightly disappointed, but we were already there, so we have to make the best of what we have! After checking in to the very nice & neat room (the only complaint is about the toilet, but more on that later), we walked around the area. I was still nursing the now raging lack-of-caffein headache, and my last meal was at 11:30am (it was now 4:30pm)… thank God that there *was* a nice place to eat open despite SuiYu and See’s insistence. Settled for some chicken rice at Nasi Ayam Gemas which I thought was pretty good, although I do agree with Pauline when she said that they did not chop the chicken properly. Never mind, needed the food in my tummy, STAT!

After that, we walked to the nearby shopping mall (Upwell) which was really one of those small town malls which sell a lot of cute but nonsense type of stuff imported from China… which is right up our alley! XD I love looking at those kinda random stuff, and of all things, we bought a lot of ANGPOW packets… because they were pink and had cute rabbit designs on them… and only cost RM1 per pack of 6. :D Pauline bought 21 packets!!! I also bought a packet of glitter pens and shampoo! Seriously, can’t run away from my addiction to shower stuff. >_<

Okie, now about the toilet arrangement at Kiara Inn.. firstly, the door is one of those “sexy time” door where it is QUITE SEE-THROUGH. As we were sharing an apartment-style room with JUSTIN, the 3 of us girls were really quite “vomit blood” at the idea of bathing. Since gouging his eyes out is not an option, we had to hang a towel from INSIDE the bathroom to cover the opacity of the toilet door, and then we pulled a curtain across the door as well as double protection. Hahaha. :) And INSIDE the bathroom, the shower head was spoiled – cracked. So that the water would spray in all directions. And the drainage was also very funny… although the drain was near the shower, the water would swirl ALL around the bathroom before swirling into the drain. It was really odd! But anyway, small matter la. The bed & air-conditioning was good for me! The only one who had anything to complain was Justin because he slept on a single bed directly underneath the air-cond — which leaked! So Pauline said that it looked like Justin wet the bed in the middle of the night. Hahahhaa!!

The wedding itself was very very romantic… Trider & WanLi’s wedding photos were very beautiful (from Lasposa, if you’re interested). WanLi looked sooooooooooo cute in the Korean traditional garb! I wish I can show you some of their photos, but they didn’t post anything online. =) As for the proposal.. wow, the groom really pulled out all stops on this one. They went on a holiday together in Spain and Turkey… and in Turkey he took her on a hot air balloon ride. There, he proposed to her, and when they alighted, they celebrated with champagne. All pictures shown during the wedding was taken by their macho tour guide, who appeared in so many of the shots that See cheekily asked, “Hmm! Is that the 2nd boyfriend?” Wtf. -___-

It was really one of those fun and romantic weddings, so quite enjoyed ourselves. Most of the good pictures are in WanAi’s prosumer camera, so you just have to make do with random food pics from mine:

The next morning, there was indeed no big prawn and cendol for Justin — just had breakfast in a random coffeeshop nearby, then drove back to KL. I was surprised by the huge portions in Bahau… I can eat a “large” wantan mee in Subang with no problem, but I was struggling a little with this:

I’ll blog more about this really FUNNY incident, and also about the Christmas cell-ebration we had last year. Twas fun!

Bulan Bersocial October Season II (part cinq) November 4, 2010

October has come to an end. :( Goodbye Bulan Bersocial October. :( And no, there is no Bulan Bersocial November as I am far too anti-social to keep this up! I am someone who is by far very introverted (though I am trying to change!)… so when I do too much social activities, I feel very drained. I don’t have enough sleep this month, eyebags galore and L keeps telling me that I purposely didn’t spend enough time with him. Aiyooo~~ so manja. ;)

Before I start — picture of awesome banana leaf rice @ Legend, Sri Kembangan. It’s good cos it’s yummy.. and cos Sifoo Wong paid for it! :P Oh, and yesterday I got an awesome lunch treat from Mr See at Old Town Kopitiam… we ate til it was RM61 for 3 people… cos he was trying to collect all the stamps for the Toyota Rush contest that they are currently holding. Hahaha… we really “chopped” him man…. I laughed like mad recounting the story to my colleagues later. =p

Anyways, continuing from our last session of BBO… on Friday we had the prize giving ceremony for the IT division sports day. Me with my 3 yo camera inadvertently wound up being the “official photographer” of the event as nobody else brought along their cameras! I only had one bar left in my camera, and I was actually saving it for photos of myself and my team mates. (Wrote wrongly in the last post, actually 6 of us receiving prizes — Sifoo Wong also got a trophy for table tennis doubles semi-finalist!) So about 20% of the photos are pretty shakey because I took pictures without flash to conserve battery life. :p Plus, the next day I had the “Amazing Adventure” for our church, and I wanted to take photos then too! I apologise to colleagues who didn’t get a good photo of themselves, but as I shared the photos out thru Facebook only… I wonder if they even know that I took their photo. Hahaha!

Some photos (there are more on my Facebook…):

FYI, I am not gloating, but seriously getting a prize for running is something that I would never have imagined back in school! I was so weak in sports, was always the one chosen last for team sports. And when I *do* play, it’s like everyone is passing the ball to the sporty gals and I just linger about at the sidelines. And this is an old story I wrote about last time — but I even failed my 100m dash assessment when I was in primary school because I walked out of the field after about 50m. -___- And I run about 100m of our school’s “Larian Lebuhraya”. So, yeah… this is an achievement… thanks to gymming for the new found stamina! As I am currently on a 2 month break from cardio exercises, I don’t feel as perky as I ought to. Can’t wait to get back on the studio floor to Attack!Combat! and Jam! But gotta take it easy as if I still don’t feel better after 2 months, the doctor is going to refer me to an orthopaedic surgeon. Do not want!

Only got to spend a while with L after the prize giving ceremony because after that was production problem… and then I slept over at Dull’s house because we had to wake up very early for the “Amazing Adventure” thingy. Maybe some background description about this — every year, my church (Full Gospel Tabernacle, USJ) organises this “treasure hunt” + “amazing race” kind of thing for the Young Adults (YA). The YA are grouped into groups of 4 to tackle challenges like road treasure hunt + games in order to collect points. The team with the highest amount of points in the end, wins! 1st prize gets RM400 and 2nd prize gets RM200. Although it’s not super lucrative, but it’s super fun, and any profit the church gets goes into their building fund, social fund, etc. Seriously, if you are someone who is charitable and generous, do consider the projects being undertaken by FGT. So far I have participated in :
~ social fund — donating to buy bags of rice for orphanage
~ building fund — we are building the Eagles Dialysis Center to offer affordable & quality health care for kidney failure patients. If this is a cause that is near to your heart, do consider giving via monthly subscription (like World Vision / Unicef like that… auto deduct from your credit card)

Now they are coming up with a new project — recycle2build which is related to the building fund. We are collecting old newspapers and aluminium cans for recycling to get additional funds for the dialysis center. So if you are feeling generous, please do contact me at gohleecheng@gmail.com so that I can collect the recyclable goods from your house. This is all for a good cause! Of course, I stay in Subang, so if you live in Johor, I cannot collect from you la… ;)

Anyway, that was off topic a bit… back to how the Saturday treasure hunt went! I was a bit worried that Dull wouldn’t be able to wake up (as she works night shifts, and she is already someone who is quite lack of sleep), but it turns out that I was the sleepy pig (as usual). What made it even harder for me to wake up was that it was raining at 6.30am when we woke up, omg… that is such good weather to just snuggle deeper under your comforters. ^_^ But luckily Dull would have nothing of it and kept on whacking me to wake me up.. *ouchie* We managed to have a good mamak breakfast by 7am and arrived at the church by 7:50am. Good huh? I don’t even wake up for work by 7:50am… *oops!*

After registration, it was just getting to know the people around us, and then we were given briefing & rules of the game. The first task would start AT the church lobby, and then we would proceed to the first task, which is a road race. We are to follow the tulips (set of directions) to reach a place where we are supposed to search for the answer to riddles. The questions refer to shop names located at the ‘mystery place’ laaa. There is no time factor like Amazing Race, as we are supposed to just collect points with the tasks… so no dangerous driving necessary. :) FYI, our team is : Dull, Allen (my cell group teacher), Yong (cell group member) and myself. Our team name? It WAS supposed to be “Still Thinking”, but because of miscommunication, JP (cell group leader) took this joke-y name that Allen came up with as our team name! We wound up being “1PB”! LOL! Out of nowhere, PB comes in, lol.

The first task — to decorate 4 chocolate cupcakes in the most creative manner and with no wastage within 10 minutes! This is an easy and unexpectedly fun task to get started off with. Everyone was rushing around squeezing cream onto the cakes, and then sprinkling on the chocolate rice & sugar beads… giggling, failing, laughing… and after we were photographed with our “creations” and judged accordingly, we could then eat it for breakfast while moving on to the next task!

Following the tulips was not actually necessary (in retrospect), because they wrote “You are now in Sunway Mas Commercial Center” at the end of the tulips. So those who knew where the place was just headed there directly, using even toll roads. We were not so sure, and Allen also said that there may be hints along the way that we need to take note of. In the end, there was only one hint, which is not necessary if you know what is the building next to Menara Lien Ho in the first place (it’s 3M). This was later used in a riddle which was, “This is the only place in SMCC which processes this type of film. What film is it?” and the hint referred back to 3M. However, the winning team later told us that they didn’t know that there was even a hint, and yet they got the answer correct solely because of the “unique-ness” of the store. HAIHz! We spent a LOT of time rounding around and around Sunway Mas! But I’m proud to say that we got Every.Single.Question correct!

Some examples of the riddles are:
~ I am Rich & Red. There are Chinese, Indian, Malay and Bengali working here.
Answer : CIMB Bank… lol
~ This is the place where disillusioned people go to.
Answer : Illusion Optics
~ How do you contact Leonardo Da Vinci?
Answer : Phone number for Da Vinci Creative Kids Center
and so on…
~ I am a place of worship of Germanic origin
Answer : it was a Lutheran church, but forgot the name. There were many places of worship there! I actually called L up to ask him if Martin Luther is German or not, and he said yes immediately. Then I said, “How you know!” and he said, “I know la!” What kinda answer is that! Hahhaha. Then he pretend to Google on his iPad, but actually didn’t Google at all… hahaha.

When we were finally satisfied with our answers, we then proceeded to hand in our answer booklet in order to get the 2nd Task book… which consists of 3 tasks and that’s that. :P The 3rd Task was to have 2 team members play Daytona and the other 2 team members play Basketball (arcade games) in 1 Utama. 4th Task was to have 2 team members play baseball and the other 2 team members play softball. This is on the upper level of 1 Utama New Wing! Heard about the baseball place before, but never tried it before. The last time I played was when I played rounders back in high school! Anyway, we actually mixed up the tasks (because we bumped into JP’s group… and they were headed for the baseball) so we followed them to play baseball too. XD No biggie, because we could backtrack and go back and play Daytona & Basketball later. For baseball /softball we are given 15 balls to hit, and we get 1 pt per ball we managed to hit. Er… Allen was so amazing… he got 15 hits!! Yes, no strikes at all! Amazing, huh? Too bad for him, Yong, Dull and myself got 2 each… lol! So it added up to a total of 21! HAHAHAA. Poor Allen…

Went back to play the arcade games, the guys played b-ball and Dull and I took to the steering wheel. I clocked the faster lap, but even that was 18 secs. Truth to be told, I know that playing at Manual will allow you to get faster lap score, but I have utterly no confidence playing manual (even though in real life, I like driving manual cars and don’t know how to drive automatic…).

Last task of the day was “PRAWNING”… and we had to drive back to Tropicana for that. When we arrived, we were told by the organising committee that we were the 5th team.. in waiting. :( To prawn. And looking at the checklist, looked like there were soooooo many teams that had arrived ahead of us. We were so confused… where did we go wrong? After thinking about it, we reckoned it was because we spent too long at SMCC… but don’t tell me everyone else was able to figure out the answers so fast? O_O” When we were driving to SMCC, we thought that we were the first team to arrive. Hahaha! Anyway, we consoled ourselves that the time limit was not a factor, so we ordered some Nescafe and just relaxed, waiting for our turn to prawn. For each prawn that we catch within 30 minutes, we get 1 pt.

Conclusion : we didn’t even get a single prawn! Lol!

Here, I have to say that time factor *does* count, because all the teams that came earlier than us caught the most amount of prawns. Maybe the prawning place didn’t refill prawns into the pond, or maybe the prawns just became too well fed from the people ahead of us that they do not want the bait anymore. Actually, there was a tug at the end of my line, but when I pulled it up, the wily prawn had eaten my bait and NOT get hooked! What the…~~ For that half hour, the 4 of us seriously became very “disillusioned” people and started talking to the prawns. Stuff like “Come prawn.. bite my bait! I promise I’ll throw u back into the pond! I won’t eat you!” or “Prawn!! Give you meat also you dowan! There are prawns out there which have nothing to eat, u know!” Geee!

At this point, really felt like we were not going to win, as there were people around us catching around more than 10 prawns. But we were still very happy, enjoyed ourselves thoroughly… in fact, Dull and I were saying we had to plan a girls day out for movie + playing baseball + good makans. Hehehe.

Drove back to the church with extra 30-45 minutes to spare… bought drinks from the Caremart (a special project by the church too… you buy grocery stuff from there that might be pricier than say, Carrefour or Giant, but the proceeds go to funding for single mothers), and then just sat down to chit chat before lunch is served. Lunch was pretty good as well… and it was good fellowship & networking that day. :) Finally, we had the prize giving ceremony, and they announced the top 3 teams for each category as well (except for the cupcakes & the road race as I think everyone scored almost the same). I felt so pity & guilty for Allen as he did so well for baseball, but we still weren’t the top team for baseball/softball! Hahahha! But at least his efforts were recognised as the organising committee confirmed that there was one and only one person who got a score of 15/15. Hehehe! Good going, Allen! :)

In the end, it was my cell group leader & cell group member (JP & Dora) and Dora’s friend Tats and Esther who won! “No Sweat” is the name, and really “No Sweat” to win the game for them. Was very happy as well as JP said (during cell), “No matter who wins, we always make the feller belanja!” Later, when talking to Dora, she told me that Tats had a feeling from the beginning of the challenge that they were going to win. This just goes to show that a little positive thinking goes a long way. :)

Wanted to stay back for clean up, but Dull had night shift that day, so she had like another 4 hours to sleep before going to work. Sent her back ASAP.. and just really glad that she had fun and she got along well with my cell group members. (We all so friendly mar… Dull also very friendly). :p I’m super hyped up about NEXT YEAR’S Amazing Adventure already and I think I can get even more friends to take part. Seriously, it’s so much fun and it’s so well organised… how often would you go about to places like 1U to play baseball / softball? How often you can find friends to go PRAWNING with you? It’s darn fun!!

Some pictures from my camera :

Went home, and was so dog tired… seriously k-o-y-a-k-e-d… just slept and slept trying to conserve energy as I had to go for Mr Ho’s wedding at Jaya One. This Raymond is so strange, he said that he didn’t know where Jaya One was, so he said he’ll pick me up. In the end, the Federal Highway was jammed coming to my house (usual Sunway jam) and then it was so jammed going back to Jaya One. So happened he was ‘kap liu’ as well… hahahahaha! Sigh.. just for the sake of not knowing where is Jaya One, brought upon jammed pundi kencing onto himself. XD

The wedding was at Overseas Restaurant, which we both had no idea where it was. When we entered the basement parking, Raymond kept saying, “Where to park? Where to park?” and I said, just park at any entrance and we hope for the best. Suddenly he just swung into a vacant parking lot because he saw some old people “who look like Mr Ho’s friends” (FYI, Mr Ho is not “old”.. he is just late 30s) so he decided to go and follow them. Miraculously, that age-cist Raymond was right, and those ‘old’ people were really headed for the wedding. -___-

Wedding was enjoyable… the food was good and served quickly. Hey, I think hotel weddings are overrated next time. Cheap & good = restaurant weddings. Agreed? Some pics from the night :

The next day, the theme of the day was “church” again… after Sunday service, I only got to meet L for a short short short 90 minutes before going back to church for a four hour course. My eyes were so blur that day already.. @_@ Migraine from lack of sleep… but thankfully the course was enjoyable & funny… the pastors are so good at presenting. After learning about the history of FGT, I feel even prouder that I am in this church… Prouder doesn’t mean “hidung tinggi” ok… more like, quiet pride and proud of the “founding fathers” of this place, so to speak.

When I met L, I had only RM30 ngam ngam in my wallet because I needed the $$ for the course. Somehow, after our wantan meen lunch, as he tried to pay with the RM50 note, the shopkeeper said that there was not enough change. So I paid first. Then I told him to fetch me to the bank as I need to withdraw money for the course. He said to use his RM50 first… and guess what? In the end the course was RM40.. so in fact I was so so so lucky that the wantan meen guy did not have enough change .. otherwise… well, not nice to show up for the course with no $. Although I believe the pastors are nice enough to let me go for the course first, still it’s bad right? For some reason, I just felt like that whole incident was so fateful.

Oh, got to try the snow ice thingy at the 100 Yen shop.. it’s really good! It’s not ICE shavings, it’s ICE CREAM shavings. Lovely texture, and very nice & generous portions for RM4.90. Feel like eating it again la… *greedy*

Click below for more pictures from Mr Bernard.. he took some really nice photographs during the event. Nice photos like this — rofl-tastic! ;p
